I will be on a cruise to the Mexican Rivera in Jan '05, is it worth the
effort to dive Ixtapa or Los Cobos? We also stop in Acapulo and Puerto
Vallarta, but I have no interest in diving there.

Then don't post on a scuba NG.

Actually Tony is correct, given his line.  What Tony could have
said better was:

If you're NOT interested in diving in Acapulco and Puerto Vallatta,
you should have dropped the last sentence for your post to read:

> I will be on a cruise to the Mexican Rivera in Jan '05, is it
> worth the effort to dive Ixtapa or Los Cobos?

Then, my follow-up would have given you what you look for about
Ixtapa (and other ports of call).

Dave,

Then why are you posting your question in a DIVING ng?
Try rec.travel.cruises and rec.travel.latin-america.

For those INTERESTED in DIVING who got sucked into this thread here :-)

Here's a good way to find out diving in each of those places asked:

1.  Go to the 'advanced groups search' section of groups.google.

2.  Search with keywords "Ixtapa (or whatever place) diving"
and restrict the search to messages after Jan 1, 2003 (just
change the 1981 year to 2003).

3.  Find out what DIVERS have to say about the location.

For Ixtapa, you'll find only 10 threads in the latest 2 years, and
only 1 somewhat-relevant post in rec.scuba.locations, in the thread
"Cozumel Restaurants Mexico and Rib's ????"

It's a good bet you can forget about the diving in Ixtapa.  :-)

Now just replace 1 word in the search -- "Ixtapa" by "Acapulco"
(you'll find only your thread if you search 'Acapulo' :-)),
and you'll find 76 threads, and even my post last year about the
drinking goats in Acapulco when I dived there in the 1980s.

You can read about diving in all those places that had already
been "trodden".

I'll be on one of those cruises in February.  That's what I'll do
to find out about DIVING in those ports of call you asked about,
-- Bob.
