So as luck would have it, my company laid me off this week. That's
the bad news. The good news is that another group in my company
picked me up, but they will have me working in Central New Jersey
January through mid August. Since I live in San Francisco this is a
bit of a drag. Luckily they will fly me home every weekend if I
desire or they will fly my gf out to see me.
As much as I'm gonna try and boy do I want to bank those frequent
flyer miles, I'm sure there are gonna be some times I'm just too beat
to drag my a.s to Newark for a six hour flight on Friday night.
Of course, I'll be bring me gear with me. What's the diving scene
like? I assume there are boat dives as well as shore diving aplenty.
I found njscuba.net and Metuchen Underwater Divers. Any
recommendations, suggestions, must see's? I know there are tons of
wrecks on the east coast, some very deep. I'm not a tech diver,
currently am a PADI Assistant Instructor.
Any tips, suggestions, etc are very much appreciated.

Have you given any consideration to flying to the Caribbean instead of home
to SF, when given the opportunity? After all, you'll be banking a bunch of
ff miles by the sounds of things.

That did cross my mind. Last year during a merger some employees
found cheap fares to Paris and London and were jetting off for four
day junkets. The company frowned on it. I have to stay in the
continental US, but trips to Florida are OK.

Why would the company care if you guys go to Europe on your free time?

Cause it's on their dime. They are paying for the weekly flights home.

Ah, I see. In that case, they wouldn't have any problem with you guys
taking your four day European vacations on the accumulated ff miles, yes?

Not at all. :)
I'm probably going to save them all up and take the gf to Bali or
something like that.

Bob, with certain exceptions, the dive season is slowly coming to an end
here in the Northeast. The problem now becomes the air temperature. Some
of the boats you might want to check out however are the Venture III and
the Outlaw out of Belmar, the Gypsy Blood out of Long Beach Island and
the Ms. Atlantic City out of ? ? ?.
Most of our diving here is in dry suits, now especially and most boat
Captains require a pony bottle. We're also not big into buddy diving
although I'm sure you can find one. But that's on you. Don't go onto a
boat and expect the crew to find you a buddy.
Yes, there are a lot of wrecks but not all are penetration. You can get
what you want here, artifacts, spear fishing and lobsters.
Have fun and be safe.

Actually some of the best NJ diving is coming up. We dive right up to the
end of November. There are days the air temps are mild and the sea calm.
Some of the warmest water temps at depth are in the Fall.

There is always Dutch Springs in PA. Get training facility and not that far
