I just got back, did 14 days and 54 (or so) dives and the both of us
survived with nary a squirt. The diving was great, the boats and dive op
are perfection, and the food is better than it has ever been before.
I hate to refer anyone to Rodales, but I wrote a lengthy post there.
You can find it at www.scubadiving.com, then click on the left side on
their "Diver to Diver" (D2D) forum. Click on "search" and use criteria
such as my name as "author" using "doc adelman" or "cocoview" or "coco
view" as a generic search.
You will see all of the reports that many first hand trip
participants have left. You will also see the ongoing spamming of Ben
Davison from Bludercurrent (a fellow who is always shown the door at
rec.scuba when he pokes his head out from under the rock where he
lives). Remember that Ben's mission in life is to sell his overpriced
newsletter (that does indeed accept advertising revenue from those he is
sworn to review) to the unwitting but eager dive traveler. You will see
other reports there that are second hand, or from less than shining
examples of physical fitness. Don't get me wrong- I'm 51 and by no means
D.I.R., but I know enough not to drink continously and expect to improve
or maintain my health.
This was my 23rd (?) trip of multiple weeks, and although I have
visited just about every rock in the Caribbean, and I have spent
considerable time at AKR, FIBR and most of the other resorts on Roatan
(and diving with them as well), CCV fits my needs as a no nonsense "dive
camp for adults". The management of CCV bridles every time I say that,
but I can think of no other way to describe it. When I use that term,
know that this is why I return twice a year and will continue to do so.
I will be there for Christmas and New Years with a couple of other
destination trips in between. Check of the Cocoview website at
http://www.cocoviewresort.com and look at the CoCoNuts list of repeat
divers. Any number of them post here, as well.

Doc, you're welcome to your opinion, but IMHO you're FOS. With more
than a 1000 dives under my belt, I'm hardly an "unwitting but eager
dive traveller", yet I find those Undercurrent reviews that I do
follow up on by actually making accomodations and diving quite
accurate. It's your loss and my gain.

I proudly admit I'm FOS, that's yet another thing that Ben won't cop
to. One starts acknowledging this around dive 6,000 (or so- as this is a
guess-timate), if you bother to keep records after the first 1000
submersions.
So if you follow Ben's advice, that's good. I try to stay way ahead
of it. He reviews places that we hit three years previous, but that's
getting harder to do now that the world has gotten smaller. Enjoy his
hot leads.
Either way, the information is available right here, for the asking,
archived, or posted here at rec.scuba without the taint of advertising
dollars that now tinge Blundercurrent. By their own website, with some
convoluted math, that subscription comes to a retail price of $75.00
Get it here, get it now, get it right, get it for free.
May God bless the usenet. Long live rec.scuba!
