Definately visit Truk if you like wrecks.  I spent two weeks there last year
and still didn't exhaust the possible dives but did get a bit tired of sake
bottles.  The wrecks are amazing and a fascinating exploration into history.
Well worth it.  We also got to do some dives outside the reef while there and
that was amazing as well

Better tp use a live aboard rather than the resorts as the travel around the
lagoon can be quite difficult at times.  I was on the Odyssey and loved it.
Best libe aboard I've ever done.

I want to go back to the area to other locations but it costs so much I have to
save a while to do so.

What other ones have you done and what made the Odyssey better?

Dan, being on the Odyssey was like visiting someone's home (which it is for
Captain Lenny and Clara) instead of some small cruise ship.  It was really a
familly onboard -- great crew of Truk local divemasters who know every inch of
every wreck, a Captain and Second Captain who would dive with you whenever you
wanted and who spent time with you and yor shipmates to pick the best dives
that would meet your expectations and desires.

The vessel is big and the cabins huge and comfortable.  There is a library that
has every reference book you could want to learn about the wrecks and the
diverse life that lives there.  The food is simple but homemade and always
excellent in quality without trying to be something it cannot be because of the
remote location.

I picked up some little viral infection on the way over and got sick on the
second day there.  Lenny got me a personal bucket to puke in and when I went to
my cabin to sleep, the cook came to my room and offered homemade broth and made
sure that I had plenty of fluid for the day that it took to get over this
thing.  When I felt I was ready to dive again, Captain Lenny offered to be my
buddy or let me have the choice of the crew so I was comfortable and then
helped me plan a dive that would make me comfortable and ready for the more
challenging things to come.

You can sit with the crew and maps of the wrecks and show them what you want to
see and then that's where you go.  You can dive your own profiles and Lenny
will help you to do dives that allow you to gain experience and challenge your
skills while knowing that you are completely safe.

I felt I was respected for my skill, experience, and training and encouraged to
learn on every dive so that I came home a better diver.  Not once was I treated
as if I had no clue as to what I was doing.

I have done Agressor Fleet ships, Peter Hughes ships, and one two independents.
I do enjoy the entire liveaboard experience but found the freedom and
atmosphere of the Odyssey the best.  Their approach your being able to dive
when you want, where you want, and making sure you are well fed and comfortable
is just amazing.  No pretensions and no fake protocol.

Hope this helps.

That probably depends on what you're looking for, and how much things above the
surface matter. We thought Yap had excellent diving and very nice people and culture.
I expect that plenty of people who've done Yap once would skip it on a subsequent
trip, but my wife and I would prefer to make it part of a multi-island trip again in
the future. The diving in Palau was better overall (our single favorite site was
Vertigo, in Yap, but I'll temper that with the caveat that it was our first
Micronesia wall dive) but our easiest choices out of the water were to remain
isolated at our resort or find ourselves in a fair size city. I'm sure we could have
managed otherwise if diving wasn't our priority, but our contact with the culture
came mostly from the Palauans working for the dive op.

> Palau and Truk are a good choice ?

If you really like wrecks and don't mind deeper dives Truk should be a good choice,
but I think there's a widespread opinion that Truk is a liveaboard trip and there's
not much to recommend staying on the island. Palau has some wrecks, but mostly the
diving will be drifts along walls or channels.

Expect a long flight, and consider skipping it if you choose a destination west of Guam.

My choice would be a liveaboard in Palau and I would let my travel
agent find me flights.
