Looking for some recommendations for hotels/operators.  I've already
got Ramon's on my list, any others?

Why is Ramon's on your list?  What are you looking for in acco?  I can give
you all kinds of pointers if you give me some ideas.
Do you want to be near the action?  Do you want better acco?  Do you
want/need a pool?  How many in your party/room?  Would you like a place with
a kitchenette?

If you chose Ramon's, make sure you get a beachfront unit.  The garden units
are disappointing and grossly over-priced.  Check out The Palms.  Right next
door to Ramon's.  Xanadu (though I hear they close the pool around 8 pm,
which is not cool) Victoria House, fabulous.

Op:  Amigo's del Mar.

In San Pedro, I always stay at the Mayan Princess. About US$100 for a unit
with cooking facilities. On the beach, just in front of Amigos Del Mar.
Cay Caulker is a quieter choice, and there is a web site for accommodation
and dive shops. I stayed at The Lazy Iguana, and used Belize Diving Services
next door.
I just returned from Blackbird Cay, and it was excellent (they have a web
site). Its on Blackbird Cay, on Turneff Atoll, and great dive sites very
closeby.

I really like the Mayan Princess too.  I've stayed in 3 or 4 different rooms
and been in probably 6 of them including end units with the extra bedroom.
Great staff.

Iif you want a pool and some grounds, you won't get that there.  Oh yeah,
and if you are a light sleeper the middle units on the second floor are not
such a good choice.  The ice machine is in the middle of the hall and it
makes ice loudly about every half hour or so.  The sleeping area is right
near the door to the units and the doors have louvered windows in them, so
are not sound proof.  I never noticed any problem with sound from other
guests though.  The balconies are fabulous and the units have a pretty cool
layout and ambiance otherwise.  I most enjoyed my stay in a unit on the
third floor, second unit from the end, on the north side of the hotel.  No
ice noise, not too near any noise coming from Fido's or late night chatter
going up the side street and a most fabulous view.

Also, the beach such as it is, fronting the Mayan, is a very well travelled
area by pedestrians, so if you like a touch of seclusion, you aren't going
to get that either.  Me, I loved being able to roll out of bed, grabbing a
bite to eat in my kitchenette and being at my boat at Amigo's dock, all in a
few minutes.   Coming in for surface intervals also meant that I could
easily go to my room, if I'd forgotten something or wanted to use the
facilities.  The Mayan is extremely convenient in that regard, as well as,
perfectly located for access to restaurants and evening activities.

For those that like to sunbathe, there's a little dock with some loungers on
it.  I always recommend that people sunbathe out there instead of on the
beach immediately in front of the hotel.  You won't get as much foot traffic
disturbance that way.

I agree with everything but the noise... because I am a heavy sleeper, and
noise doesn't waken me. So I have to defer to Chilly's observations.
