We are traveling to Tobago in November and would like to know if anyone has
experienced Manta Lodge in Speyside and/or gone diving with Tobago Dive
Experience.  We are staying at Manta Lodge regardless, so constructive
criticism would be helpful!

Thanks
Bob

Well they have a mixed reputation but if you don't like them them the
Blue Waters Inn, www.bluewatersinn.com
Is just down the road. I also hear good things about "Redman" a local
live op. Redman Diving  tel. 660-5464

My Fave. is Manfriday in Charlotteville, the next village along but they
don't seem to be operating at the moment! Charlotville is one of the most
beautiful bays on the planet by the way!

If you want to dive the Car-ferry wreck, variously called the "Scarlet
Ibis" or  "M/V Maverick" Go to Black Rock and use Eco Divers
http://adventureecodivers.com/home/home.htm
It is only about 100m. offshore from them. Other operators will drag you
round the Island on long expensive boat trips to get there. Eco go every
day for regular dive rates.

Jacob, the huge attendant potato-cod, is no longer there despite what
pictures folk show you! He was a hoot and used to wait for you at the
various exits of the wreck.
The last time I dived it the current was strong. I came out of a hatch to
come face to face with a barracuda as bug as me resting in the lee of the
current. I don't know who was more surprised him or me!!

Tobago is one of the last great places. Have fun!

Manta Lodge is right in the middle of the downtown hustle and bustle
of Speyside. If you over indulge at the bar with the side rail that is
in the shape of a Green Moray and wind up stumbling outside into the
street, you will probably lie there unmolested until morning goats
nibble at your ear. The lodge is the noisiest part of town.

I prefer the Blue Waters Inn and Redman.

Tobago isn't for the easily intimidated. Current and less than state
of the art boats/facilities.
