Hi,
Have never dived of Venezuela and was wondering if anyone has any
info. I'm planning to go down about mid to end October, and will be in
Caracas on business and of course will add some pleasure time as well.
So anything within an hour or two of Caracas would be great. Oh and bye
the way, I have no intention whatsoever to go to that tourist trap
called Margarita Island.
Thanking you all in anticipation of some good tips.
William.

As a long term resident (17 years) of Margarita Island I would be
curious to know why you feel it is a "tourist trap"? Prices on the
Island are the lowest in the Caribbean, the people are super friendly
and the sun shines more than 90% of the time. What's your problem??

I have no problem. It's just that I prefer less touristy places. I went
to Venezuela to meet Venezuelans and to see and feel the culture, not
meet tourists from other countries. That's the whole idea of traveling
to another country, isn't it. To learn their culture, to savour their
delightful ways, to experience first hand the way they live and work and
play. I have nothing personnel against Margarita Island, but like Cancun
or Acapulco or other such places, they no longer exude their own
identity. Each to their own, and I prefer the quieter realms, away from
the hustle and bustle of to many other tourists.
