That's a TOUGHIE! The French Polynesia island groups span the area of
the USA. It depends WHERE in the French Polynesia dive resort you
would like to go. I have dived in at least 20 different islands there,
some of them better dive locations than Rangiroa BTW, IMHO.
If you're specifically interested in Rangiroa (for the sharks), you
can find dive packages that take you there. You can also book a week
with the Tahiti Aggressor and dive the Rangiroa and several other
islands in the Tuamotu islands.
I saw many more sharks diving in Raiatea and Moorea of the Society islands
than I saw diving in Rangiroa.

Papeete (PPT) is a good starting point. Air France, Air Tahiti Nui,
Air New Zealand, and Hawaiian Air have regularly scheduled flights
going there from LAX or HNL.
Once you're in Papeete, there are ferries and puddle-hopper flights
to many of the islands, even such unheard of island as Nuku Hiva in
the Marquesas -- where I did the BEST dive ever done in Polynesia.

Use groups.google.com to search for the directory of dive shops someone
once posted for a dozen or so of the French Polynesian islands.
> ANy idea of prices?
Generally more expensive than other dive resorts. $70 to $75 for a
ONE-tank boat dive is common. Double that for two tanks. Equipment
included.
> IF you have been there recently how were the fish and coral?
Alive and well. So are the sharks. Saw at least 50 blacktip sharks
in one single dive in Moorea yesterday.

After my preceding (short) reply, I found this LONG post of mine

which has many details (including dive shops and their webpages) that
you and others might be interested.
