Question regarding Cozumel Dive Operators from Presidente

I would like to be able to dive the far southern and northern sites (Punta Sur,
Maracaibo, Barracuda) as well as those in between, and be picked up at the
Presidente.

Any recommendations from RECENT visitors to Cozumel as to the best dive
opperators?  Is Living-Underwater or Aldora still thought of highly?

TIA

Aldora?  Don't make me laugh.

Try Caballito del Caribe and tell Adrian that Bob Ling sent you.

Good suggestion.  This op caters to day trippers so the boat leaves at
1000 hrs instead of 8 or 9.  Also, since I was with Bob Ling who
vouched for us, we were pretty well left alone.

Greg is very easily entertained, especially by himself -- he is the
original "Anti-Aldora IDIOT", as Ron Lee is the original "Aldora
IDIOT".

Cozumel is a dive location of MANY excellent dive operations.  But
what is good for the buceo (or buzo) ain't necessarily good (let
alone best) for the BOZO, and vice versa.

As a result, I SELDOM recommend any dive shop to anyone unless I KNOW
something about the experience/requirements of the DIVER.

This is a somewhat lengthy prelude to STAMP OUT Greg's gag now, which
might be misconstrued by some as "serious" and ruins BOTH the
reputation of the Caballito dive shop AND the enjoyment of the divers!

> Try Caballito del Caribe and tell Adrian that Bob Ling sent you.

Congratulations, Greg!  You got the NAME of the shop right this time!

For the record, I NEVER sent Greg there, and probably would NOT have
done so if he had asked, for reasons I'll skip.  :-)  But an intro
of Greg Mossman to the present readership may be helpful on Greg's
diving history and recommendations.

Greg dabbled in internet ngs in 1995 in rec.food.cooking and
misc.legal.moderated until he made his rec.scuba.locations debut
in 1999, following up on Aldora IDIOT Ron Lee himeslf:

Ron Lee>  I have never felt at risk in Cozumel.  Lots of tourists all
Ron Lee>  over.  However, it is not risk free.

Ron Lee> There may be equally nice places but I can only speak from my
Ron Lee> experience.

Ron hards knows ANYTHING about the dive operators in Cozumel!

Greg Mossman>  And don't forget the second-hand smoke!

A profound commentary to another profound commentary about Cozumel.

By Date: 2001-02-27 14:08:06 PST, Greg was ready for his VIRGIN visit
to Cozumel, no doubt influenced by his pal Ron Lee in his choice of
shop:

Greg > That reminds me that I'll be diving with Aldora in four weeks,
Greg>  using my Cochran of course.

to which I chuckled and smirked,

> No, no!  Aldora only sanctions computers which reads GREEN, YELLOW, or
> RED.  Too complicated for their divers otherwise.   <G>
>
> -- Bob.

Greg>  Kind and generous Aldora offers the use of their computers FOR
FREE

By August 2001, Greg has already established himself as a Cozumel
expert
on dive operations (typical of rec.scuba experts -- been thar once):

Greg continued to make his noise which even prompted me to make a
LENGTHY post to DEFEND Aldora, against "anti-Aldora IDIOT Greg"!
:-))

This is a brief history of Greg as evidence that you should read ALL
Greg's posts about dive shops and dive locations for BIG BOULDERS of
salt.

In contrast, I did recommend Caballito del Caribe to Dan Bracuk and
his wife Patti.

First and foremost -- they ARE experienced divers.  Also Dan was
sufficiently serious about reducing some extra blubber to get into
his wetsuit to dive in Cozumel in 2001 that he plotted a daily chart
of his weight for months and did not even fully indulge in the
fantastic seafood buffet we invited him and Patti in 2001, when Greg
was chanting Sldora Sucks and buzzing around all my posts, like a
gnat.  :-)

http://makeashorterlink.com/?B25C21529

That was why Dan was one of the VERY few posters in rec.scuba that
I have actually recommended a particular shop.

So there!  If you want to find a dive shop that suits YOU, don't go
around name-dropping like Greg does.  There are PLENTY of posts about
the PROS and CONS of various dive shops.

Do a little groups.google.com search homework, and learn to recognize
who are credible and who are FOS.  :-)

-- Bob.

P.S.  To Greg.  No rebuttal is necessary.  :-)   Offer to buy you a
drink
at the LAX Hilton this Saturday if you show up;  or Sept 22 when
I
get back on a 4-week cruise.

Bob, you are almost as generous with your compliments as you are with
your money?  Where ya going on this cruise?

Lots of places in the middle of nowhere.  From Papeete, Tahiti, to
Moorea, Riatea, Pitcairn Island, Easter Island, Lima Peru, Manta
Ecuador, before coming back to Ft. Lauderdale via the Panama Canal
and Grand Cayman.

No Cozumel, and not much diving though.  :)

May get a good rest from the internet because the satellites
may not cover much of the Pacific from Pitcairn island to Peru.

No rebuttal necessary.  This is the first time someone has ever written a
biography of me.  I'm truly honored.

Sorry I missed you on Saturday as I was flying back from Seattle, but to
Ontario instead of LAX.  Next Saturday I'll be in Denver if you want to meet
there, or the following Saturday in Cabo if you can get your boat to detour
a bit.

Ah well, there'll plenty of other dates and locations that sooner or later
we bound to find us at the same place the same time, somewhere!

Greetings to all from Papeete (that's Tahiti).

> Next Saturday I'll be in Denver if you want to meet there,

No way.  Will be at sea to Easter Island.  Will buy you a drink THERE
if you can arrange to be there on September 7th.  :-)

Nope.  The boat can't cruise that fast!  It'll still be steaming hard
toward Peru.

Recommend you dive with Tony and Suzanne Castillo on Yucab 3  (872 3270)   They
provide the best diving for experienced divers on the island and run their
boat from the Presidente marina.

Just out of curiousity, when you say they are the best, what are your
criteria and to whom are you comparing them?
