Hi,
I am a newly certified diver and I am going to the Florida Keys to
dive in September. I have heard Looe Key is great diving. Is
navigation difficult on the reef? Should I go on a guided dive? Are
there any dive operators you recommend for visiting Looe Key?
Also, do you have any suggestions on nice places to stay on Big Pine?
Thanks
Anuj

I dove there a few years ago, this is my trip report:

Is navigation difficult? It can be. Here is my navigation adventure:

There are worse things in the world than guided diving.

It's pretty nice for new divers. A bit shallow and over visited for those
with a bit more experience.
> Is navigation difficult on the reef?
Not if you pay just a bit of attention.
> Should I go on a guided dive?
A matter of personal choice. Your card says you're qualified to dive
unsupervised. Are you?

Jim Wyatt, Florida Leus Reef Divers. jim@reef-divers.com

Ask Jim. He'll have better information on what's available and prices than
most, perhaps any, of us.

Looe Key is okay but the only thing to watch out for is that there's lots of
snorkellers there. Scuba Diving magazine once rated Looe Key as the best
snorkelling spot in the US. If you are going to be in the Keys, I would
suggest that you do some dives off Key Largo.

Which affects diving, how?
