I am heading to Coz. All I want to do is drink beer and bake, but
Goddess-on-Earth told me she wants to dive a bit. I don't know squat about
Cozumel, having never been there, so could anyone here suggest dive ops and
locations. My preference is a smaller op, no hand holding, on schedule,
don't care about price, and since I was hoping for relaxation....drift
diving. Proximity to my hotel is irrelevant. I'd rather have the better op
that the convenient one.

Any help is appreciated.

I have some info posted at
http://www.jumpstartmusic.com/cozumel/travelog that may be of some
assistance.  I have dove (dived? diven? doven?) with both Cozumel
Equalizers and Blue Angel; both fit your criteria, but there are plenty
others.  It's virtually all drift diving.

Cheers,

The one and only CHARRO -- anytime (midnite night-dive ok), anywhere
(North, east, or south, besides the west side), no schedule (you name
it), no limit (a 10-tank deco dive ok), no rule (except return alive).

I recommend Tony and Suzanne Castillo on Yucab 3  (872 3270).  They provide the
best diving for experienced divers on the island.

I second the recommendation.  I have been diving with Tony and Suzanne
for the past five or so years.  Nice people and a wonderful operation.

I dove with AquaSafari and they have excellent service.  The crew really go
out of the way to help you and they also prepare excellent snacks and
drinks.  They have two locations, one downtown and the other minutes away on
a hotel.  Their boat picks up divers at both locations.
