Aus Whitsundays Vs Bali Diving

Can anyone help me make a decision between the Whisundays and Bali for
a dive trip next month (August 04) please?

I'm planning 1-1.5 week holiday departing Brisbane with around 4 days
diving and getting Advanced ticket and try to include some normal
holiday R&R on the end.

I've been researching like crazy but funds are tight so I want to be
sure I make the right choice.

All you guys that have been to Whitsundays, Cairns, Fiji, Vanuatu,
Bali etc. where do you think I should go for the best diving & R&R on
a budget out of Brisbane?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

I've been to both the Whitsundays and Bali. Trip reports are on my
website. I wouldn't bother going back to Bali. The diving wasn't that
great and most of it is a long way from the main accommodation in the
south. The diving will be cheaper in the Whitsundays.

There's also some pretty good diving around Brisbane and Byron Bay is one
of my favourites. The water isn't that warm but you get to see big grouper
and wobbegong sharks.
