I just registered for a professional convention in Waikiki this July.
It'll be my first time visiting the 50th state, and I definitely want to do
some diving while I'm there. Can you recommend the best areas to go to?
What are the must-sees?
I know it's 5 months away and I'm jumping the gun a little, but I'm
pretty excited and I'd like to get planning. The kicker is that I'll be
able to write the whole thing off since it's work-related. Sometimes, life
is good. Of course, this'll probably mean that I'll have to start itemizing
my deductions next year, but it will definitely be worth it. I just wish I
could get away with writing off my gear like executives can write off their
golf clubs, but I don't think that the IRS would believe that I'm doing
business deals underwater.

I'm assuming you are only diving Oahu. The Mahi (sunken ship) is always
worth a dive. You often see spotted eagle rays. Electric Beach, Three
Tables, and Shark's Cove are decent shore dives. Makaha Caverns is good for
lava tubes and turtles.

Here's a recent article called "Diving Waikiki" from California Diving News:

Make sure you tour the suds mansion, soon to be a major attraction like
Hearst Castle in California or the Queen Kamehameha Palace.

Now what brought this on? If I enjoy talking about the new house, it's
because I'm trying to laugh. $600k for a fixer-upper?! If I don't laugh,
I'm going to cry.
Anyway, I don't live anywhere near Waikiki anymore; I'm windward, across the
big pointy mountains. It's been several weeks since I was last in Honolulu.
If this guy wants some advice about diving on Oahu, I'm sure there a plenty
of "experts" here to help him out. I spent the day working on the house,
I'm tired and going to bed.

After a short dip in the pool, that is.
We're going diving off the kayaks this Sunday. What are you planning, Greg?
A drive by shooting? C|;^{)

Hanauma Bay?
I always itemize. It's the smart thing to do if you have much to
deduct at all. Just use Taxbrain. It's really not difficult.
Have a great trip,
