PADI Divemaster is looking to communicate with Instructors that did
their IDC certification outside of the USA (or home country).
I am interested to know if doing the IDC Course outside the US was a
dis-advantage, or perhaps the opposite? And, what were your most
positive / negative experiences? Did you feel that the teaching and
standards were as high as they'd be back home?
Please fell free to reply directly, rather than on the NG.
Thanks in advance,
HMB

It really depends on where you are to begin with.

Where did you do your DM course, where do you plan to work, and how do
you expect to get there?
I suggest you contact a Course Director near you to get career
counseling.
Feel free to contact me via e-mail.

Most of the IDC is done in a classroom or pool. Very little of it is done in
OW. SO I would say save you money and do it where you will be teaching which
is likely where you live.

Best to do it locally. Most shops like "homegrown" instructors (ie,
instructors who were previously DM/AI there). It's damn tough these
days to walk into a shop and ask if they are looking for instructors.
Easier to tell the shopowner that you've been DMing for that you're
going to do the IDC. Might even save you a grand by telling you he
has all the instructors he needs.
