Posted 10 days ago asking for information on diving around Hong Kong.  Just
got back from Hong Kong and sad to report that despite all efforts I was
unable to go diving ... couldn't find any shops that were running boats on
the days that I had free.  Did get out on the South China Sea in a Chinese
junk/tourboat that doubles as a dive boat on weekends.  The weather was cool
(50 F) and the water was about (65 F) and the viz from the surface looking
down was very good -- by Canadian standards this would be fine diving
weather.  Not for the Hong Kong divers though, they prefer to dive May to
October.

Too bad, some of the sights looked interesting.  Did get over to their Ocean
Amusement park and checked out their aquarium and shark tank.  Shark tank
punishingly small for the sharks but their aquarium is massive -- great for
anyone wanting to do a little species identifications.

Curious, has anyone on rec.scuba dove in the waters around Hong Kong and if
so, how was it?

No, I was as 'lucky' as you, when I was over there last year...

I was 'luckier' than you. I am dumb enough to do it again? We'll find out
next November...
