Narcosis Triggers

So the new guy at work is Vietnamese, and since it's lunar new year, he
brought in a ton of good food, and I spent most of the day snacking on spicy
yummieness.

That night I head out to Seacrest to fall in before I go home.  The plan is
the samesame plan.  Swim to bouy, submerge, I-beams, honeybear, cold-or out
of air, beach, home.  Same plan I've dove a zillion times.

So we get to the i-beams, which were sitting at about 100' today.  And I
notice that I'm narced off my gourd.  Whacky narc.  I'm looking at my guages
for a long time, then immediately forgetting what I read there.  I can't
concentrate.  Things are funny.  I signal that I'm koo-koo, so we begin to
rise, and I clear up at about 90'.

I've been on the i-beams at 100' countless times, and I've been narced.
This day, pow.  So,  I remember a fairly decent discussion here regarding
narcosis, and some triggers.  People mentioned things like blood sugar,
hydration, and thermal protection.  Anyone think vietnameese food can
trigger narc?

Any chance any of it was fermented, but covered up by spices?

Mabey.  There was a sweet rice roll wrapped around a pork loin.  They wrap
it in bananna leaves and slow cook it for 10 hours, so it's possible.

I didn't feel anything like alcohol intoxication, though.  I was thinking it
may have been something my body was producing to process the gut full of
spice.

I'd eat it again in a minute, and just limit my bottom to 90".

In the past I have noticed that if I eat a lot of spicy food, I tend to
become slightly dehydrated. Dehydration could lead to nitrogen narcosis
symptoms starting at a shallower depth.

I've found that too, but realized it was due to the beer.  Beer always leads
to nitrogen narcosis symptoms starting at shallower depth.

So does pullin a big hit off a fatty, sitting on the transom, immediately
before flopping off.

Not that I know.

It's kinda like that theory that repeated exposure acclimates you to
narcosis.

If you are narced at the surface....

Quite a bit shallower... Like at the surface... <grin>
