Airhog Jr. and I will be down around Miami way during Spring break.
He's had a tough year and I used some of my Christmas bonus to take
him on a cruise 4/5 thru 4/9. He's a remarkable little boy and I am
soooo very proud of him. Throughout all he kept his stright A average
and scored 95/100 on his ITBS standardized tests. We are driving down
4/2 and 4/3 and spending the night at the Big Pine Motel 4/3 and 4/4.
Captain Jim is taking us out diving (me) and snorkeling (Robert) on
Sunday 4/4. We are both "fish" and can't wait to jump in!!! My
question is this: I would like to do something special for him after
the cruise dumps us at 7AM on Fri. We don't have to be back til Sunday
4/11. Is there anywhere near Miami to dive/snorkel preferably heading
north. He's way young (11) to get certified and we need to stick
together. Even if it's just dinner w/some of the folks that Mickey
respected so much and had looked forward down the road to bringing
Robert diving with. I also could use advise on his future dive
training.
Sorry this is so long. NO Disney World please. His Dad went there w/
us a few years ago and I don't think he could deal w/it. Now,
alligator wrestling might be fun.........

Thanks a bunch in advance!!!! That's my real e-mail so use it if you
like.

they do some beach diving just north of lauderdale at commercial
pier, apparantly the first reef system starts near the end of the pier,
you can also get out to the second reef system by going out a bit, never
been myself but it's kinda popular over there.

I was born and raised in Miami...
If you go to Key Biscayne, (Seaquarium) and stay on the Bay side, North end
of the Island you're in Bear Cut...
Shallow water, clear and used to be loaded with fish, etc.
Caveat: Haven't been there in years, may be all developed to the point you
can't swim there.
That was the place I had my first dive... 14 years old, twin hose reg
(Seahunt) and dove solo!
I had to trudge thru mangrove swamp to get there.
Lovely water.
In the north end of the Keys is John Pennecamp State park... great
snorkeling trips available.

Hi Karey.  I'm sorry for your loss and the loss of your son's father.
I'm also surprised that none of Hog's friends have chimed in to reply
to you about treating Hog Jr. to this vacation.  You'd think that if
thought anything dear about Hog, they'd want to give you info so that
you could treat his son. Whatever.

I have 2 ideas about stuff after your trip to the Keys.

One is that you might look into taking a tour of the Everglades on an
air boat. I used to live outside Daytona and this was my fav thing to
do to treat ppl who visited me. The air boats are very cool and I
think your son would enjoy it.  Hell... it's almost gator wrestling.
<grin>  He might even seen see one from the boat.

My other thought is to pursue the Nascar thing. They are very big
there... esp around Daytona.  There are places where you can actually
pay to sit in a actual Nascar with a driver and go a few laps at
speeds of 150 - 200 mph.  Your son might enjoy that.

I'm sorry that I don't have any links for you.  I could get the Nascar
link though if you give me a bit.  A friend of a friend did it and I
haven't talked with her for a while, but I could find out.

The thought certainly crossed my mind. And I hope for the child's
sake, that they did. But why not post here ??

(a)Because it's none of our f.cking business.

(b)Because the rest of us have a life outside of this group.

That's 94% of the posts I read today.

96% of the posts I read today say otherwise.

Just my take.

It's none of our business when someone posts here asking a question
about what to do while in Fla ??  The answers should all be private
even though the person asked the question of the group ??

Yes... that's why I've been gone for a while and probably won't be
back for another week or so. And you ??

That will be a nice rest, you seem to be going too far recently .

You're making an a.s out of yourself on this but you did do a favour for
me a while ago and I respect that so I'm not going to reply to this
thread.
