Neither, save your reputation and money and get a pair of sea snips, a
nice metal backplate and a classic wing...

But you can't go flattie bashing with a pair of sea snips.

Says who? You can bash your flattie with whatever you have handy ATT.

No, scuba is for robbing wrecks, catching lobbies, gathering scallops,
etc etc. Mmmmmmm, dinner.

Too much useless, unecessary crap hanging off it.
Too many potential failure points.
Probably over-priced.

Cool, a nice new BCD and a nice new pointy knife to accidently stick a
hole in it! :-)

No. If you want a single tank wing, get a Halcyon.
And if you want a combat knife, then possibly. But you'd be better off
getting a proper combat knife, complete with a decent handle (although
Technisub do some nice offerings in that range).
If, on the other hand, you want something useful for diving, get shears (or,
if you insist on a knife, something with a flat tip so that you can't poke
holes in things by mistake.)

There's definitely an echo in here. It must be a complex resonance
from all the other ngs that have been posted to...

If you want to look cool.
A sport diver trying to look technical.
While the tech boys smile at you.
The stuff looks cool ,but it's fluff.
If you need a to carry a knife look for a square tipped one like OMS's.
Carry it as a third tool (keep it small)
Better to go with a Line cutter (OMS / Dive-Rite) and snipes (OMS) (don't go
cheap)
As first and second tools.
How many you carry depends on your type of diving.
As for a BCD go for a back plate and wing.
Both repairable, durable or replaceable parts came be had anywhere.
Expandable, plus gives support for your single tank so it does flop around.
Or something to bolt your doubles to when your ready.
As for bladders go for minimum 45 lbs for cold water (single tank)
Larger bladder for doubles.
If overweight is a problem go with a ABS back plate instead of SS (6lbs
neg.).
Brands to consider.
All have their pro's ,con's and common ground:
OMS
Dive-Rite
Halcyon
This is just my cold water opinion.

Why not? I paid £1.60 for mine, end of the season throw them away at
which point they can still cut paper or sheet metal so they can
probably do another

You /are/ joking, right? My twinset wing is 45lb! You can get by perfectly
well on a 27lb wing for a single steel 12L in cold water, although a 36lb
wing might be better if you plan to hang a heavy light off it.

Or Aluminium.

My setup is 36 pound Pioneer with an AL plate. Works nice in warm or cold
water, drysuit, wetsuit, nosuit.
