Douglas W. "Popeye" Frederick - 03 Jul 2009 12:12 GMT RCMP seize 1 million rounds of ammo in Red Deer Last Updated: Thursday, July 2, 2009 | 5:49 PM
A southern Alberta man has been released on bail after the RCMP seized more than 100 firearms and one million rounds of ammunition at a building in downtown Red Deer.
The Red Deer RCMP found the arsenal Tuesday while responding to a complaint about a man making threats at a building in the 5200 block of Gaetz Avenue.
Officers arrested the man alleged to have made indirect threats using guns. They seized seven registered firearms during their initial investigation and then saw several other weapons and ammunition in the building.
When they returned with a search warrant later that night, they found more than 100 guns, including rifles, pistols, shotguns and antique guns, along with between 500,000 and 1 million rounds of live ammunition.
They also found some marijuana, police said.
David Elliott, 46, was charged with uttering threats, possession of marijuana and unsafe storage of firearms. He was released on $10,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on July 23.
Investigators are still trying to determine who owned the guns.

Grumman-581 - 03 Jul 2009 20:25 GMT > I thought they had laws forbidding that Now we know why ammo prices have been going up... Canadian hording !!! If in fact he did have 1,000,000 rounds of ammo, I'm impressed... I just got a shipment in for 20,000 primers and 8 lbs of powder and was quite happy to finally get some reloading components...

That's because nothing gun related could possibly be their fault...

Grumman-581 - 06 Jul 2009 00:55 GMT > It doesn't look like they think it's that big of a deal, either. It's not... Seems perfectly legal as far as I'm concerned... A million rounds of ammo though... I'm impressed... I didn't think that Canadians had that much initiative... That kind of breaks all the sterotypes for Canadians, doesn't it? Hell, next think you know, they're going to be telling us that it really isn't cold up there...

It already looks like they don't have that kind of inititive. The headline may say a million, but the text says between 500,000 and a million. It'll probably wind up being a couple bricks of .22 long rifle.

and any where from $93,000 - $237,000 worth of 22 ammo..... wonder how much that weights?!?! and that is for a half a million... if he had a million plus...
wow... never thought about how much that weighs or the cost of that much...hmmmm

We're looking at 2,857 lbs of lead... There are some .22LR that are slightly lighter and the above figure does not factor in the weight of the powder and brass, but it's a good rough estimate I suspect... So, let's say 3000 lbs as a nice round number... Something definitely possible to carry in a small trailer behind a pickup... Last time I bought a lot of .22LR bricks, they were going for about $9 per brick of 500... So, about $9K for 500,000... Definitely doable...
Sounds like personal use to me... Nothing suspicious at all...

on this web page
http://www.eabco.com/Lapua02.html
for price.... like their extra shipping cost....

Grumman-581 - 23 Jul 2009 20:36 GMT > oh... I did a search on- line for brick a .22 > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > for price.... like their extra shipping cost.... That Lapua X-ACT for $237.58 for a brick of 500 sure is some expensive .22LR rounds! If I'm shooting .22LR, I usually am just using the Remington or Federal promo loads and last time I bought a few bricks, they were around $9 per brick of 500 (I think one of the brands was 550 rounds)... These days, they're probably double that... I haven't bought .22LR in quite awhile... I probably have enough to last me until Bama-Boy gets removed from his current public housing in DC and we get back to having a conservative in office (like Reagan, not Bush, and definitely not McCain)... For other calibers, I've got a bit over 41K of primers, so I should be set for quite awhile...

He uttered threats which, by the way, is not a crime in the US unless the immediate ability to carry out the threats exists.
He possessed marijuana. Doesn't say how much, but they sure said how many rounds they found, 1 million . . . wait, maybe not a million, maybe between 500,000 and a million . . . maybe.
