There is a picture at http://www.cozumel.net/ (lower right corner)
showing a beautiful beach.  Does anyone know if this is actually a
picture from Coz and if so, where is it?

Looks like a fabulous snorkeling spot.

Thanks.

I don't think so,,, Cozumel is flat island, on this picture I can see some
sort of mountains

What "mountains"?  :-)

I am SURE it a picture from Coz (why else would it appear in that link?)
though it would be very difficult to identify the location because many
beaches on the island may look like that.

As for basing the choice of a snorkeling place on a picture of a beach,
that's generally not a wise thing to do, because when you snorkel,
you are not looking for the white sand and little grass UW on the
beach, but FISHES.

There are many beautiful beaches in Cozumel that are virtually
fishless -- those are the hotel beaches NORTH of downtown.

The good snorkeling spots are never pure white or emerald green looking
from above because you need CORALS for the fishes, and the coral heads
will look dark, and the best snorkling places (in Cozumel and elsewhere)
are generally ROCKY (coral and rocks with little or no sand) and look
dark and messy from above, but beautiful once you get under the water.

The picture in question looks more like a good bathing and sunning
beach, rather than a good snorkeling beach.

download the picture and enlarge it. You'll see type of trees and very clear
hills. Those are not Cozumel mangrove trees

I said that because what looks like a mountain in the foreground of
that picture was nothing more than a small hill such as that at one
end of the Bonita beach (on the East side of Coz).

Excellent idea.

I did, to the maximum magnificantion factor when everything bacame
very fuzzy -- and indeed, the remote background does seem to look
like DISTANT mountains which I couldn't see before.  :-)

I stand corrected!  Especially after I read DrYak's post which said
he pic was just a standard Windows 2000 background!

I have to ask Chuck the next time I see him as to WHY of all the
beautiful beach pictures he could have used for scenes in Cozumel
that he had to use one that is NOT in Cozumel.

Your viewer must be much more powerful than mine!  In the near
foreground, I could see lava rocks (which is VERY common along the
shores of Cozumel), but I don't see anything I can identify as a
mangrove tree.

But I am now convinced that the picture is NOT a beach in Cozumel.

But Skip shouldn't be disappointed, because I gave him reasons why
a beach that looks like that from above is probably not much good
for snorkeling anyway.

I have made three previous trip to Cozumel and we are making the forth
trip this thanksgiving. Cozumel is flat. No hills or mountians. Great
place to go. Great diving, great food, and great night life.

Not exactly correct. On the East side of the island you will find a small
"hill" of sorts. Atop this hill you will find a bar/restaurant called
Coconuts. The highest point on the island and a great place to sit and have
a cold one and maybe some grouper al mojo de ajo.

i STAND CORRECTED. I SHOULD NOT HAVE SAID NO HILLS. I WOULD CALL THE
SPOT YOU ARE REFERRING TO MORE OF A MOUND RATHER THAT A HILL. I HAVE
ENJOYED A  COLD ONE OR TWO OR THREE THERE. OH! WHO'S COUNTING.

The picture is a standard Windows 2000 background, so who knows where it
was taken.

I can see I'm not the only one that thought that shot was familiar.  I
wonder if they paid any royalties to M$ for their use of it.

It appears to be the beach just south of the Cocoanuts restaurant.  It is
usually filled with waves and surfers.
