Just got back online a couple of hours ago... It's been a busy few days...
They were talking about us possibly being without power for up to 4
weeks... I bought a generator, so I was doing fine, but ComCRAP figures
that if your neighborhood doesn't have power, then you don't need internet
either... Obviously they are WRONG!

Glad to see you're doing well.

I'm going to have to learn to watch where storms go after they make
landfall.  It turns out that Ike headed for Kentucky.  While it was not
nearly the magnatude there, that it was when it hit Texas, apparently it was
bad enough.  Word has it that power is out, traffic lights are out and trees
are down all over the place.  The Natrional Guard is directing traffic.
I'll be the presence of a person in uniform with a pistol on their side and
an M-16 over their shoulder cuts down on the number of people that run red
lights.  On top of it all, most of the power workers needed to restore
things there are helping out in Texas.

Rick Simms checked in.  He and his family are safe, but not comfortable.  It
turns out his emergency generator wasn't quite as adequate as advertised.
Hope he doesn't go out and buy a supplemental one.  Then we'll have to
listen to how he's a whore too.

Here's one of the funnier photos of what happened with Ike...

And some not so funny photos of the damage to Galveston's seawall area...

And others...

Rick has more money than you, I'm pretty sure of that.  He'll be
$1,000 poorer after the next election, but still able to feed his
family without having to visit the soup kitchen.

Why do you think he'll be a whore and be waiting in line at the soup
kitchen behind you when he can afford to buy his own soup?

Yeah, you'd  think they'd want to keep that going to let people communicate
their condition/whereabouts etc. to others/family etc.  Sheesh!

Glad to know you're OK!!!

Cell phone service was virtually non-existant since the hurricane... Text
messaging tended to work quite a bit better, but there were still cases
where the phone just said "searching for network" in areas where it had
worked prior to the hurricane (my house for example)... Of course since
my landline is in fact a VOIP system, it didn't work since it relied on
internet connectivity... Since ComCRAP is also the cable TV company, I
have to wonder if their TV service was also down during this time... I
have DishNetwork and it was still working after the hurricane... The
antenna didn't even get knocked out of alignment even with the winds that
split one of my trees in half...

One of the things that I noticed though is that before the hurricane, the
local TV channels were saying to use a small battery powered TV to keep
up to date on the status of things after the hurricane if you lose
power... With the mandatory switchover to digital TV, I see a slight
problem with this... I have yet to see any small battery operated
handheld digital TVs in the stores... I suspect that some are being made,
but they're unlikely to be as cheap as the handheld analog TVs have been
over the years... Of course if someone is even slightly resourceful, they
can power the digital-to-analog converter box from an inverter and have
the signal from the inverter box going into a small TV, but that is
nowhere close to as portable as one that actually ran on batteries...

Well, Ike was a total, absolute non-event here.  It didn't so much as
spit, the winds were mild and it hit 99 here on Saturday.

Carol's folks are still without juice.  They say the power crews are
in the neighborhood, but Joe (a power EE of the old school) should
know that that may still be a week or more.  They were supposed to
come up today, but decided to wait.  Now they'll wait "another day or
two".  But Irene has sleep apnea and uses a CPAP, which isn't working
right now.

Nothing you can do to persuade them to spend a few days visiting?
There's not much sense in suffering if there's such an easy alternative.

Or they could try to get FEMA money for a generator but there's
probably nothing left due to all those rich folk sucking on the teat.
Doesn't that suck?

I mean, can't even use the CPAP, yet some bastards get second
generators at taxpayer expense to fund their f.cking ice cubes.  Their
oughta be a law!

There is a law, but it's easy to get around if you know how to scam the
system.

Which rick folk are you talking about?

Have you sent a check yet?

There is, and I was in complete compliance with it.

That's the second time you've suggested a criminal act.  I'm keeping copies.

Rich, as in owning 6 or 7 boats, living on a lake, and sucking the
government teat.
