Well, at least they loved American sailors back in the early 1980s...

Well, the way that I remember it from 25+ years ago, the Aussie guys were always too busy playing football or whatever on the weekends and the Aussie girls seemed to like the attention that us American sailors were more than willing to give to them after having been out at sea for quite awhile... Maybe things are different now... Sailor that I knew who had been to Australia even longer ago than when I was in also were impressed with the friendliness of the Aussie females...

Grumman-581 - 25 Jun 2008 02:52 GMT > and now these days they dilute it? Nawh, these days there are diseases that can kill you, so even sailors and marines are smart enough to wear protection... Personally, I don't think it would be as fun these days hitting various ports... Kind of takes the fun out of it when you think that the only thing protecting you from a long drawn out death is a thin piece of latex... I'm glad that back when i was there it was such that anything that you could probably catch was curable by penicillin...

In the old days I used to sell pharmaceuticals. One of which was a 3G dose of amoxicillin for the clap( ( + probenecid) well for UTI ) but it worked well for both. Iirc if a US sailor was returning back on board with a "dose of the clap " this was a punishable offence. Every time the US navy turned up in town we used to sell heaps of this . There was only one Dr we didn't sell to who thought that a dose of phenoxymethyl penicillin in the butt would not only cure them but would teach them a lesson as it was extremely painful and as it was oil based you couldn't sit down for ages.

Don't be afraid you've already broken the language barrier in Australia. BTW are you related to Dr. Dolittle?

Definitely not, I'm only researching why Mike is so obsessed with Australian sheep. For a moment it looked like rejected love, but now I'm not so sure.
