Hello,
I was a former IT Professional until 9/11 happened, and been out of work for
two years. At the present time my employment prospects are slim to none as a
Senior Network Analyst and I am facing the possibility of a career change. I
am currently a Rescue diver and I am thinking getting my Scuba Instructor
certification. My question is, are there any Scuba Instructors in S.F. Bay
Area in California that are able to teach and work in a Local Dive Store and
be able to survive the horrible cost of living in California? Now I
understand I won't get rich as a Instructor, but would like to have enough
money for my monthly bills, food, gas etc..
Next question is Internships, I found a couple of dive shops on the Internet
that offer Scuba Internships, and I was wondering if anyone on this News
Group had any experience with a shop that offered a fulltime internship in
the Scuba Industry?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi,
I don't know if I can answer you fully, however, my friend is a Padi
Instructor, and he does ok, he is diving about 4/5 times a week.
Well, at least you would be making some money, you could also run ads and
do private instruction.
I love the coast around the bay area, I havent dove it, but I can imagine it
would be nice.

Maybe if you live in Modesto and teach in San Jose. But probably not.

Really really unlikely you can lead anything close to a comfortable lifestyle.
You will get to dive a lot- meet lots of fun people- if you lead trip maybe
even go somewhere.....
But the cost of living in California is going to make it really tough. If you
are willing quit the US and hit the road.... the resort life is pretty fun.

Me Too. The only thing that saved me was my personal savings account. Now
I have opened a Marine Dealership and am having a ball with life. Spend my
days leaning on cool boats and BSing about fishing and hunting and
water-skiing and stuff. Don't even miss my IT days.
