To all S'Floridian rec.scubans -

My dad advised me this morning of a TV report concerning a missing diver off the southern Fl.
Gulf coast. Missing for two days, and about to give up the search.

Anyone have any info on this?  Dad was concerned since I'll be  heading for Belize this Fri.

Thanks...

If he's worried that the dead body might drift down to Belize and
scare you while you're diving there, I don't think the currents run
that way.  You can also tell him that according to the latest study by
the CDC, diving fatalities are not contagious.

Are you talking about this guy?

"Charlotte County, Florida - 67-year-old Dale Witt of Arcadia was
reported missing on Saturday. The captain of the charter vessel,
Legacy Dive Charters of Southwest Florida, reported the call around
11:35 a.m. The Coast Guard, federal, state and local agencies  have
been searching for Witt since 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

"There were reports that Witt surfaced from a dive while the charter
vessel was retrieving another diver, but when the boat went to pick
him up he had disappeared.

"A search of the area west of Englewood several miles out into the
gulf Saturday and Sunday was unable to locate the missing diver."

I was wondering if he was worried about the same thing.

So, if anyone down there encounters an extra diver, be sure to give 'em
a lift back to shore...

I tried to do that one day.  Fanta Sea, out of Miami, left one of their
divers behind.  I mean, they pulled the anchor up and were pulling away when
he reached the surface.  Unfortunately, for me, somebody saw him waving
frantically and they turned around and picked him up.

I have every intention of charging Fanta Sea enough to pay for all the gas
used on that dive trip.  Back then, it was not that much.  Today, I'd
probably own their boat.

What's not to  understand.  I was out in my boat.  I saw them pull anchor
and drive away.  I saw their diver come to the surface.  I planned on
picking him up and taking him back to the dock and charging Fanta Sea for
the service provided, the service that they were obligated to provide.
Given that they had failed in their duty and obviously had not counted heads
before leaving, I was going to set my price for the service to them high
enough to pay for my trip.

What Lee really wrote:

What's not to understand is that you used the present tense in your
original post.  When chilly questioned it, you actually changed her
quote, replacing your present tense verb with the past tense version.
Then you made chilly look silly by exclaiming "What's not to
understand".

Have you no shame?

I guess not.  Most people would save the diver simply because it's the
right thing to do.  Some people are always looking to make a buck.

Which makes me wonder, after the 9/11 incidents, were you one of those
get-rick-quick-off-tragedy types who went around selling American
flags at hyper-inflated prices?
