Just booked the plane tickets for July to Hamilton Is to meet my mates boat
for a week of diving on the Great Barrier Reef. SWMBO and the screamers will
spend the time on Daydream Island with the extended family and for me the
waters of the GBR await. With a stop at Daydream to see the family and the
mainland for more supplies. The Bundy OP runs short after a couple of days.

I am I excited yes I am

A $500 dollar donation to Diver's Alert Network would be scuba related,
Futile Dave.

So would a $500 donation to Reef Rescue.

If you weren't so stupid, that is.

Snip, snip, snip that porkie pie away.

Lucky for you, it doesn't take a hyperlink to do that.

Marines have a good bit of experience at finding islands.
They also have a habit of, once finding it, taking it away from the current
occupants.

I thought the Navy was entrusted with making sure the Marines 'found'
the right island :-)

When I went to Australia in 2005, I tried to wing in a trip to GBR.
But I just couldn't get a flight schedule that made any sense, since I
would have to fly in from Adelaide.

So I consider the ship near Adelaide.  Until I read the part where
they were recommending full 7mm suits or dry suits.  OTOH, the day we
arrived in Adelaide (some time in mid April), it was 40 degrees or so
and everybody was soaked in sweat.  Some of the folks went off to see
a football game (I assume it was the blood sport kind), but we just
wandered around.

I was kind of amused in Sydney to see many of the kerbs with little
warnings "Look right before crossing".  Bloody Yanks, I guess.

Of course the smart thing to do is to look *both* ways, even on a one-way
street... Even if you have the green light...

Yeah, I've got some photos of my truck to indicate what happens when you
don't...

Done for the Olympics, the number of Europeans and Septics who get splatted
because they look the wrong way is amazing.

To tell the truth, I drove around Ade a bit.  The first 10 minutes or
so was more than a little worrying.  Then I got the hang of it.

You'll notice that, since we were in Oz, I spelt the word "kerb"
instead of "curb".  I tyre of the differences in our language :-)

I in fact find it easier driving in Europe and the States with the change in
sides of the road than I do as a pedesterian. I always have to conciously
look the "wrong" way before stepping off. After a few quiet ones of the
wobbly boot juice my first adult time in EuropeI can understand why looking
the wrong way accidents can happen

not bad, wheel converse about this later

In the US, blind people are complaining about hybrids.  Seems they
can't hear them coming.  They want some sort of noise maker attached.

seems a bit of an overreaction but having said that electric powered
vehicles on work sites in Aus normally have a noise maker. But having said
that golf carts and the electric cars around Dubbo Zoo don't ( the road you
drive on is a public road and NSW road rules apply)
