Apparently there is a new Wii video game called "Endless Ocean" It's a diving simulator
game which, from what I read (there's an article in the May "ScubaDiving" magazine), it's
very accurate, even down to how you "gear up" on the boat, and "idiot" boat dive buddies
that bug the Hell out of you and the DM's etc. The objective I gather is to stay buoyant and
navigate through the ocean, petting the animals (I know PETA won't like that but...) etc.

I've ordered it for my niece (she'll turn 12 in July) as a training aid. She's into Wii games
so we'll see if this helps her with her "cool under pressure" skills, and hopefully, it will
give her a little taste for the hobby ahead of time.

Anyone familiar with this one?

Its not that new , it was out before Christmas, hope you haven't paid
too much for it - there are hundreds on Ebay for £10-£20.
All 'played once, fed up' type sales which isn't inspiring.

Its one i've been meaning to get, but the reviews arn't perfect see

"Learning about fish by petting them is kind of silly, and it gets
tedious once you've learned about most of the fish but still have to at
least click on them because many fish look the same. There's also no
real danger. Some people will enjoy not having to worry about running
out of air, decompressing, monitoring surface time between dives, or the
fact that petting a shark you know nothing about is perfectly A-OK.
Others will find the lack of any sort of danger boring."

Bit less real life, bit more like one of those aquarium screensaves for
pc with an interactive element.

I think I'll wait for the second installment - "Endless Stoney" -
swimming round and round a murky pit, looking for the APC.

Ahh, thought I was in the UK group - for Americans replace 'Stoney' with
name of your nastiest quarry, and APC with 'burnt out cadilac'

Perhaps so for hard core game enthusiasts and for divers, but for my
12 y/o niece, I'm thinking we might get a bit more mileage out of it.

The reviewer must have taken his PETA pill.  Not that I'd ever advocate
petting such animals or disturbing them in any way.  "Swim and let swim"
is my motto.
