Is it true that you don't a photo for Naui cards now. This was mentioned by
someone on a recent dive.

My 1998 (and only) NAUI card does NOT have a photo. My dad's 1976
PADI card does... and that dude had some hair...

I have/had ( not sure where it is ) a Naui card from 1990 when I did a
refresher course after being in Canada and N Europe and not diving for
14months. I thought it had a photo on it. This is why I was surprised about
the comment of no pictures on NAUI cards

Not sure they ever did. My wife's card, issued in 1991 does not have
a picture.

Another thing I will put down to my defective memory

Neither does mine dated 1969. As it happens, I don't have a single card
that does have a picture on it.

Pick a card, any card...
My old YMCA and more recent SDI and TDI cards have no pictures. My PADI
cards do.

I can't say that I've ever even seen a greed card. One part of my family
was here before there was a United States to be part of. The other part was
here before them. I'm one of the relatively few native Floridians still
living in Florida.

Why didn't the cowboys kill your ancestors?

I have a really early NAUI card (not saying what year) and there was
no photo. And for awhile, when I was gung-ho on getting other NAUI
cards (photography, accident management) and certificates, and none of
those was a photo required. Good thing too. Have a photo on my early
TDI card and everytime I show it now the dive shops says stuff like
"you brought your son's card, now where is yours?"

This is an interesting comment since many people believe that NAUI is
superior to PADI. So you get a NAUI card and just hand it to anyone who
wants to go diving? Doesn't say much for NAUI. I took a NAUI course but
never got the card. Both my PADI card and my NITROX card, which I got
online, have pictures.

Does your social security card have your picture on it?
How about your birth certificate?
How about your high school or college diploma?
I don't think the presence of a picture is a particularly good way to judge
the quality of training provided. There are other, better, more official
ways to identify someone. A dive certification card is not a common one.

The biggest joke is what a pilot license looked like up until very
recently... Basically printed on a really crappy quality 9-pin color dot
matrix printer... No picture, nothing fancy... Basically some text and
*very* simple graphics... I think I might have shown it to you once...
Considering the amount of money and effort that it takes to get one, you
would think that they would have made something a bit more substantial...
Let's just say that the old one tends to come out of the washer a bit the
worse for the wear after you get your wallet washed with your clothes by
accident... It was Grace's fault, of course...
