Respirocytes

Thought you lot might be interested by this potential technology.

Respirocytes will be tiny gas exchange nanomachines. So named, since
their initial design was planned to simulate erythrocytes (ie inject
into bloodstream and being able to absorb CO2 and give off oxygen).

Potential medical uses are huge - think of an antidote to asphyxia,
carbon monoxide poisoning etc.

So why the relevance to diving?

Well, different respirocytes could be designed to mop up nitrogen from
the blood rather than carbon dioxide. And that could eliminate the
bends and totally transform deep diving.

Check out this overview here:

They're only an idea at the moment, but they could have a hell of an
impact in a lot of fields.

 And that may be true.

But what's more amazing is your hypocrisy.

Because what you've described as my "lack of substance reach-a-round"
is -precisely- what your contribution was-

In addition to what you've previously described as "hero worship".

At least I has responding on behalf of a good friend- your reach-a-round

 Classy.

It shows where and how you hang out in the gutter.

Scotty, you are really bad boy. So far it's you and your stupidity
under attack, not a man who is dying of cancer or little old lady even
if according to your own words "they  are the very definition of punk,

I assume/hope it wasn't of you.

Yeah, it's a bad scene. The main tumor in his neck has metastasized and it
is into his lungs and kidneys as well.

He just had all his teeth pulled and they are fitting him for a mask to
protect what they can during radiation.

f.cking cigarettes kill more people in more horrible ways than any firearm

Funny, one of your fellow right-winger racists here actually denies
the connection between smoking and lung cancer.

It's "lefties" like me that pushed for surgeon general warnings,
banning tobacco advertisements, taxing cigarette sales so high that no
one can afford to smoke and giving the proceeds toward child health
insurance, eliminating smoke from restaurants and bars and workplaces
and just about anywhere else.  There are communities in California
where you cannot even light up in the street or in your own home if
you have shared walls (apartment or condo) or in your own backyard.

It's the right-wingers that are paid and delivered by the tobacco
companies as usual.  Get the facts right before you mouth off and you
won't look like such a moron.

So, instead of 1 out of 23, you would prefer 2 out of 13...

Not that much of a difference...

Maybe you should build your own home news server and not get any external

No, I'm right... You said "s/1/2/g" and from the previous post, that would
replace both the '2' with '1' and the '23' with '13'... If you're going to

a *pedant* fuckhead... Must be that quality educational system you have
over there in London...

We have some good beers over here... We also have some spectacularly *bad*
beers... I haven't ever tried Stella Artois -- figured it was too light
for my taste... I prefer a beer that is very dark... If you hold the glass
up to the sun and you can see through it, it's not dark enough in my
opinion... Guinness and Mackesons is good... Over here, we have an Abita
TurboDog (6.1% ABV, IIRC) that is right up there from a taste standpoint
with Guinness in flavor... Guinness of course varies on its potency
depending upon which of the brews that you can get... The Special Export
has a pretty good ABV, IIRC...

Nawh, if I want to drink piss water, we've got plenty of those types of
beers here in the States that would classify... I don't need to pay extra

being an Alzheimer's Moment, impending dyslexia, insufficient caffeine in

Thanks everyone...

Snow and rain make for a more interesting funeral... Especially all of
the people who thought that the original weather forecast was going to be
accurate... Hell, it only snows up here every 10 years or so... Women soon
found out that high heels do not work well on ground that has seen so much
moisture to become nearly swamp... They dress up for it and go away with
muddy pants legs because their heels sunk down a couple of inches... Kind
of funny from a warped sense of humor point of view... I guess my mother
got the last laugh on all of them...

Got to see a lot of my cousins that I hadn't seen in many years... You
don't really notice yourself aging that much over the years, but when you
see someone that you remember from many years ago and see how they've
changed, it really impresses upon you how old you're getting... When you
see a cousin who was close to your age who is now a grandfather, it really
hits you that perhaps you really are getting old...

I hear ya. Each one that I attended for my paternal grandparents were held
in extreme seasons in Washington DC.  For Grandad, in mid February in the
middle of a snowstorm, and for his widow, roughly  2 1/3 years later in the

>of funny from a warped sense of humor point of view... I guess my mother

I went to my uncle's funeral in the Ottawa Valley on Saturday, the
9th.  He was 81.

We just happened to have the biggest dump of snow this year over
Saturday night and early Sunday morning.  About 12" in that area, and
22" in Ottawa.  We were stuck at my parents' place until 15:30 on
Sunday, when we finally got plowed out.  Made it home Sunday evening
to a driveway with the biggest pile of drifted snow I've seen in a
long time.  Thank god for snowblowers.  It reminded me of when my
uncle and dad brought me and my cousin to my uncle's cottage, before
it was insulated, in the middle of winter -- the parents were worried
and worked hard to keep us from freezing to death, but my cousin & I
just had a lot of fun.

I found out that my uncle had become lucid for a short time and told
his kids that he was OK and being taken care of, and not to worry.  He
wanted them to let him go, and it sounds like it helped them.

My cousin said a few words at the church service and that had everyone
choking up.  No matter how ready you are, it's still a shock.

Ditto.  I saw all my cousins and almost all of their kids -- some of
the "kids" are approaching 30.  Ouch.

Just recently attended my Aunts funeral in Edmonton, wanted to see her one
last time but thankfully speaking to people it was lucky that she didn't
last till I could make it over. It was so cold but so white which was in
many ways very beautiful and calming.

I don't recommend Regional flight to Sydney-Vancouver- Edmonton  -Funeral-
Vancouver ( same day evening flight) and than home. Emotionally and
physically draining

My condolences.

I've been to two family funerals in the last week (my great uncle and
Janeen's grandfather).

Other people dying sucks.

No.

Here in my state alone there are many microbreweries, some of them putting
out *really* good barley water.

I don't drink Coors, Bud, Oly, etc.

When I drink beer, it is a microbrew, and it is good.

Here the server is obligated by law to only allow so many of certain beers
to be served in a specific time period.

Some adhere to that, some don't.

What the actual content of alcohol is I don't know.

I can tell you that there are several that after two or three, I aint

Your post was very interesting, and since I am up against the wall here with
my Dad (I guess no one ever heard of a son of two fathers), and if they
could pull this off and make it work, it could save literally thousands of
doomed people.

I can see artificial lungs, the ability to save so many lives in so many
ways, the implications are staggering if they can actually pull it off.

Of course we've heard of a son with two fathers.  There's nothing
wrong with that, even though the "wisdom" of certain Boards of
Education requires school libraries to pull books like "Why Johnnie
has Two Daddies" from the shelves.  It's a credit to rural hickdom
that a son of two fathers could grow up to be such a macho bully.

Doesn't matter, this nigger (remember I am slinging it at a white guy) has
nothing to offer to anyone, unless you are an illegal alien, then he has a
sub standard wage job with no bennies, no medical to offer so he can sell

There's the colorful language we love from such a colorful guy.  Now
that I know your rainbow background, I'm not surprised.

BTW, I employ over 40 people, with a total payroll, not counting my
salary, of close to $1,000,000/year.  All my I-9 forms are accounted
for.  That makes you a liar, Scott.

How many people do you employ and what bennies do you provide them?

My chair cost me almost $500.  That makes you a liar, Scott.

I'm here as always, ready to face you whenever you hitchhike down
here.  But that will never happen.

Besides, you've been invited to more than one DWG, with other people
volunteering to pay for your airfare because you're not even worthy

Florida.  But you didn't show.

Not me.  On my second gin & tonic in the Honolulu PC, waiting to board
to Guam, I've got a nice glow too.  We get into Palau around 10 p.m.
tonight.  Have you been to Palau yet, Scott?  No?  Didn't think so.

Okay, this time you're getting to a place ahead of me, by about two
and a half years. I hope it's not sunk by rising sea level by the time
I get there.

You never know.  I was talking to a guy on the flight last night that
said there was already some reports of flooded islands out here.  But
it's looking good right now.  This afternoon we have kayaking for
mandarinfish, which I'm going to try shooting on snorkel with natural
light.  But gee, you know after Scott's claims that he gets me mad, I
might just sit in my hotel room and stew over his mean comments.

I know Scott has probably ruined your trip, if not your whole life. I
hope a week on the Aggressor in Palau will help. My next couple of
weeks will be too busy to worry much about the metooers, so they may
just be disappointed, throwing out their bait and catching...

I wish I could at least blame Scott for the stomach ache I've had
since the flight, but it's probably the fault of too much free
business class booze.  We skipped our kayak tour today since we're
both exhausted, my stomach hurts, and it was pouring rain on and off
all day.  I should blame that on Scott too, why not?  With all his hot
air, he probably did cause the rain!

> nada.

They can pester that Australian guy while we're busy.  It's more fun
for them to gang up on one poor soul.

> Have a great time!

Oh yeah.  Stomach is getting better since this morning, so I'm having
maitais in the lobby bar while taking advantage of the free wifi.
Tomorrow is scuba with the dolphins at Dolphins Pacific, the only
captive dolphin program AFAIK that lets you dive with the slimy beasts
instead of just snorkeling with 'em.  But I'm sure that I'll still be
reeling from all of Scott's profane insults so that I won't even be
able to enjoy myself.  Oh well, at least the dolphins will have a good
time!

I have a good photo of her with her hand in a dolphin's mouth from

are so many other deadly things to poke out here, she'll probably
leave the eels alone.

What else am I supposed to do on vacation?

Yeah, but I've only used it to check for messages so far, since I have
to lean over my balcony to get a line of sight to the sky and that's
not very comfortable for extended conversation.  Wait until I'm safely
aboard the Aggressor and then I can call you from a hammock on the sun
deck.

At least the internet is working again today.  It was out all
yesterday.  I suppose free wifi in the middle of Micronesia is enough
of a technological marvel that I should consider myself blessed I'm
able to get on at all since, like I said before, what else is there to
do?

BTW, the dolphin dive was pretty cool, but the bastard dolphin kept
kicking up the sand, making my photography a bit challenging.  Some
beasts have no respect.  I bet they kick the corals too.

No, they're probably trained by the dolphin tour organizers to kick up the
sand except when the tour organizers are takng picture they want to sell

Nope.  We're a little walk away from the main building, past the dive
shop, all the way to the 10 building.  Actually that's where I stayed
on my fam trip in 2003, but we were downstairs then.

No problem, since it worked when I needed it for business.  Rec.scuba
is fun and all, but I really needed the internet for some bank
transfers to prevent bouncing checks while I'm on the boat, and it
fortunately came through.

Yeah, the bit about not letting the guests have cameras while you get
your dolphin kiss so they can charge you $15 for a picture was a bit
annoying, but we paid anyway.

Anyway, the hotel is pretty much as I remembered it except for two
details: first, the pool underwent a major remodel from a motel-like
uninviting waterhole to a beautiful horizon resort pool - that's a
nice touch; second were the room toilets - the first time I've used a
toilet that also wanted to wash and blow dry my butt!

We're off in a half-hour, back in a week.  "See" you then.

>We're off in a half-hour, back in a week.  "See" you then.

Have fun.

The 10 building is past the dock, quite a hike in the humidity there.

We ended up in the 600 building for our "day room" on the way back, a
garden view room overlooking the fish pond.  Enjoyed the shorter walk
when lugging laptop to the lobby, but it still wasn't close enough to
access wifi from the room.

Quite a few cute DMs from Neco Marine too, I discovered on the last
night of the Aggressor trip when we disembarked for dinner and drinks
at Kramer's.  They ranged from very cute to stunning.  The dive
manager there who hires them is a somewhat recently divorced male.
Imagine that.

Never been to Japan.  Not sure I want to.

When I was in Chuuk in 2002, I had to take a piss during our tour of
Xavier High School and was pointed over to the outside restroom.  The
kids there were laughing at me when I went in, thinking I was going to
have issues with the toilet which was basically just a hole in the
ground, no TP or other place to wash.  Since peeing in a hole in the
ground isn't an issue for me, I didn't care a whit.  Otherwise...

It wasn't hot enough in Feb. to generate the Humidity. It was just fine for me.
Summer in NJ is far worse.

This particular one worked for the PPR's on site dive shop, Splash Tours. You can
see her from a distance in one of my website pictures (the one where you see the
boats on the dock in the distance)....

Well, not to gross out the group, but in many places in Asia, especially in
"non-Westernized" private homes etc., TP is often non-existent. Instead,
there is a bucket of water and a scoop. Westerners must literally carry their
own TP as a "survival" matter. Even where there are Western Style facilities, one
cannot place any form of  paper in the system as it will cause major clogging
damage. There is usually a small trash can nearby (Chile was one such place).

Those "wash and blow dry" seats are lookin' better now eh??? :-)

Always remember to stand on the footpads, facing in the correct direction or
Splash Tours gets a whole new meaning.
