Why the connection between guns and diving, or divers?  I see this a lot
here, and while I know a lot of divers with a lot of guns, I fail to see the
connection between the two.

This ng is hardly representative of the dive population.

I would assume that in America any subset of the population would also have
members of the subset of the American population that are gun owners as the
latter subset is so big. I know quite a few divers who are gun owners mainly
because quite a few of the people I dive with have large rural properties.
The difference is we tend to talk about diving not guns

 How would you know?

Got any examples of what you consider to be the representative group?

 Then shut the f.ck up.

The subset of Aussie divers sure doesn't talk about diving on their
newsgroup.

And when we're out diving, we don't talk about guns.

 Damn, you're stupid.

To the contrary, this group is extremely representative of the dive
population. In fact, it's more representative than any other group or
organization I've ever had contact with.

The fact that we talk about so much more than diving, does not detract from
the diving information available here.

The internet is American... Therefore, everything on it is American by
default... We allowed country level domain specifiers for the rest of
ya'll to play with so that we don't have to listen to your whining all the
time... Since rec.scuba does not have a country code identifier applied to
it, it is American by default... We're nice guys, so we don't complain if
you come over here to associate with "the big boys" once in awhile, just
as long as you know your place...

That makes less sense that your last gaff.

First off, not everyone here is American, and this NG doesn't represent
American-only views.

Secondly, within the Americans, there are -plenty- of divergent views.

Thirdly, with your massive jealousy and angst, you're the last person here
to do any assessing of "American" views.

Lastly, your education and comprehension level is so low, you have a hard
enough time, as this thread proves, posting anything basically coherent
anyway, and then especially explaining it.

That's a nice dodge, but regardless, you're the one that made the claim.

That means -you- get to do the analyzing.

Don't forget the other Aussie Rec.scubans, along with yourself, that you
say aren't representative of the dive population.

I'm sure you like to assure yourself of that (like Futile John frequently
does) to brace your delicate ego against being as inconsequential as you
are.

And nobody cares who calls you what.

"Our Little Bitch" is most descriptive, anyhow.

 Leonardo da Vinci was Russian?

Nice to see you as correct as you usually are.

At any rate, it was more arguably the Chinese, around 400 BC.

Of course, with the invention of the counter-torque tail rotor, and the
first mass production run for military and civilian use, it was the
Americans that made it work.

Just about every "civilized" country developed some aspect of vertical
lift craft, or Gyroplane, or Helicopter (term coined by the French).

Except third world shitholes like yours, of course.

Have you guys invented -anything- besides public fornication and
beastiality?

In 1979 they also said that the next generation of Soviet people would live
under Communism.
You know how well that worked out. I hope you do, anyway.

If it were true, it'd be pretty easy to verify.

I'd say it was as true as the helicopter claim but it was there and we were

Sure about that?
http://inventors.about.com/od/hstartinventions/a/helicopter.htm

http://www.sikorskyarchives.com/siksky2.html
<quote>
After another fruitless search for some position in aviation, Mr. Sikorsky
resorted to teaching. He lectured in New York, mostly to fellow emigres.
Finally, in 1923, a group of students and friends who knew of his reputation
in prewar Russia pooled their meager resources and launched him on his first
American aviation venture, The Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corp.

The first aircraft built by the young and financially insecure concern was
the S-29-A (for America), a twin-engine, all-metal transport which proved a
forerunner of the modern airliner. A number of aircraft followed but the
company achieved its most significant success with the twin-engine S-38
amphibian, which Pan American Airways used to open new air routes to Central
and South America. Later, as a subsidiary of United Aircraft Corporation
(now United Technologies) Sikorsky's company produced the famous Flying
Clippers that pioneered commercial air transportation across both the
Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The last Sikorsky flying boat, the S-44, held
the Blue Ribbon for the fastest trans-Atlantic passage for years. All
Sikorsky aircraft of the time were known for ease of handling and luxurious
comfort.

With two careers behind him and the oceans conquered, Mr. Sikorsky turned
once again to the helicopter. Through the years he had jotted down ideas for
possible designs, some of which were patented.

Finally, on September 14, 1939, Mr. Sikorsky took his VS-300 a few feet off
the ground to give the western hemisphere its first practical helicopter.
His dogged determination and faith in his own ability to build what many
considered to be an impossible vehicle established the bedrock upon which
today's helicopter industry rests.

Sheldon, you realize of course that the new Home Minister of the UK
wants to more tightly regulate knives.  I guess now you'll have to
belong to a knife club and store your knife at the knife club
headquaters.  And have a background check.  This is going to tear the
crap out of dive knives.  I'm guessing my K-Bar would be frowned upon.

In the US, the three "forbidden" topics of discussion are politics,
religion and sex.  In Europe they ask "what else is there to talk
about?"

Guns, of course.

 Maybe you see correctly, then.

Or do you think there's a connection between diving and "Hilldebeest

 Diving and jailhouse prisoner abuse?
