Myth No. 10. "School violence is rampant."

It may seem so, with media attention focused on a spate of school shootings.
In fact, school shootings are extremely rare. Even including the more common
violence that is gang-related or dispute-related, only 12 to 20 homicides a
year occur in the 100,000 schools in the U.S. In general, school assaults
and other violence have dropped by nearly half in the past decade.

It seems, that Douggy as usual found something what suits his level of
ignorance.
Of course the level of homicides for K-12 is really around 20 per
year, but it is really interesting to check methods of death.

Absolutely a total dishonest response - Popeye did not in anyway claim
that - try to be honest instead of twisting what was actually said

No one here finds any of this kind of crap acceptable - NO ONE.  And NO
ONE ever said they did

all I've got is Aus strict gun laws lower gun crime rate, gun crime has
decreased since they were tightened. America slack gun laws ( for historical
reasons ) a disproportionate number of gun massacres. Is there a direct
correlation I think there is others on this ng disagree. Will introducing
tougher gun laws in the US help? don't know as it is such a gun culture

 It's because you're so stupid.

There are already nearly 30,000 gun laws in the U.S..

In general, and without special permit, weapons are already illegal to
carry.

Criminals, who commit the vast majority of gun crimes, do not obey gun
laws.

-Gun- crime in Australia may be down, but, crime isn't.

 Well, -there- we agree.

Yet -your- solution is to have more laws?

[quoted text clipped - 3 lines]

Sentences for felonies committed with guns are already ten years longer
than the same crime without.

Some states have an automatic 1 year in jail for the -slightest- gun
violation (i.e.- possession).

In Massachusetts, that includes BB guns.

You're going to have to identify the problem (the drug culture), and deal
with that.

The problem is, Americans won't give up their drugs.

Also, parents are going to have to take responsibility for their
childrens' actions.

But the plain fact of the matter is that you -cannot- keep guns out of the
hands of criminals.

 What do you think?

What does it mean when registering, confiscating and destroying weapons
doesn't lower the crime rate?

How many Aussie criminals turned in their guns, do you think?

I'm not going to drag you kicking and screaming along like I do Futile
John.

You're going to have to do a little thinking.

My point is that Aussies gave up over a half a million weapons, for a
fraction of their worth if any, for little or no gain in safety.

That's your partisan opinion, but the facts are on my side.

Among several other points, -no one- here will debate me issue for issue
on Gun CVontrol in general, or American gun control in specific.

Futile John has fled screaming several times, including just last week.

I couldn't be bothered, really it doesn't worry  me. You have nicely
provided the murder rate at US schools.

There was a killing of 2 students at a Melbourne University ( what you would

considered a school shooting after replying to JOF )

Popeye the markets are now closing over here and it must be getting late
over there 2300 or so. So let me say I have just tossed the hook. It was a
nice troll ( liked the cross post of the "dear john" thread into aus.scuba)
but sometimes the fish is playing with the angler not too interested in a
fight because they know they can leave at any time dignity intact but with
the troller not having the fun of a good fight and looking like the troller
they are.

 Wow.

 Wwwoooooowwww.

 What a whining little bitch.

If Futile John ever wanted to know what it looks like when he cries a
little tear and slithers out on his belly, here it is.

You make a general accusation (which, -amazingly-, is about how I discuss
things), like Futile, and I politely and clearly invite you to discuss
it, -several- times, and you give excuse after excuse after excuse,
until -this- piece of sh.t, after which you then post ten more times in the
next two hours, even though the "markets are closing".

Even more "John Like" (read: cowardly), was how you snipped and snipped
away each of my questions to avoid answering them.

Had the chance to discuss the Aussie gun control problem (which is a lie
you previously made) and you scurried like a pussy.

Had the chance to prove up on your accusation ("what accusation?") and you
crawled out on your belly.

How perfectly Canadian, that you attempt to imply that there was any
"dignity" involved on your part.

Fuckin stupendous, another verified Rec.scuba kill.

 I just hold the light.

You people do all the work.

That's the way it's been since March of '98.

 How -sweet- it is.

here it a euphemism for making a big mistake.  I'd guess that it's probably
considered a pretty big mistake to screw the pooch in Australia... at least

Sometimes I am interested in discussing it sometimes I'm not. You are not

you have your guns you have your massacres Cool it is really none of my
business I just point out that this level of gun violence does not exist in
Australia. Someone in another ng said that these shootings don't really
matter as it is only Americans killed ( basically you reap what you sow )
but IMHO this is a stupid pov. Hey my eldest may be doing her gap year over

i hear the scurry and run by yet another that really do not really
understand the gun issue or have an effective means of controlling
'their' fears or prejudices

It's pretty easy to identify, isn't it?

Futile John must be proud. :-)

that is because they aren't reasonable, and its the same mantra - ban
all guns

as a gun owner who uses it as a tool for work that would be a stupid bloody
thing

That presumes JOF has a "responable" point of view on the subject.

lot of his pov are crap, that is what normally happens when you get people
arguing from both ends of the spectrum. The answer lays in the middle
probably

So if you think lots of JOF's pov are crap, why use "because you won't
listen to a responable point of view and debate it" when Doug mentioned how
JOF ran away when Doug tried to do so? Heck, you've been dodging nicely
yourself, rather than engage in a debate Doug's offered. Here's your chance.

because I didn't say "all" his povs.

Popeyed trolled he hasn't got the bite he wanted ( sh.t he even cross posted
the " dear john" thread to aus.scuba ) you and scott trying to act as berley
isn't working either

Didn't say you did - note th euse of the word "lots". However, when you say
"that is what haoppens when you get people arguing from both ends of the
s[ectrum" does tend to imply that you think JOF's pov, regarding guns..is
crap.
Maybe that's not what you menat though - ok.

So which of JOF's POVs do you find "reasonable" or at least "non-crap"?

Might've been an accident - you can see how hat can happen, right?
Or he might've considered ot relevant to both groups. :-)
