"I think we should go one step further, and maybe have a pictogram on the package, with a little ear and a red X mark," Quebec coroner Dr. Jacques Ramsay suggested."

Funny, my doctor always told me not to stick anything smaller than my thumb in my ear.

Opened up paperclips do a great job of scratching the inside of the ear. Cotton swabs are too flexible to work well.

It must be immigrants from up north that are using golf tees. I've never tried that. I suspect the diameter would be too much.

Grumman-581 - 06 Feb 2008 14:48 GMT > Keys were OK before I discovered paperclips. The best think that I ever discovered was the old bobby pins made out of flat metal (vs round metal like the paper clips)... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f2/Bobby_pin.jpg
Pull them apart a bit so that the curved spot made a 180 degree turn instead of the 260 degree or so turn that they make when new... This makes the two ends a bit further apart so it doesn't twist in your fingers... Great for scratching that in the ear spot that q-tips just don't quite get... Back in the '60s and '70s, these were usually easy enough to find around the house since women used them quite a bit in their hair styles of the days...
With the oriental culture, they have a device called an ear pick for this sort of endeavor...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_pick
The ones that I've seen were usually made from brass... Grace lost hers many years ago and they didn't sell them around there at that time, so I took a piece of brass brazing rod, hammered the tip flat, filed the edges of the top smooth, and put a slight bend in the tip, just like the original... She picked up some new ones the next time she visited Taiwan...
For drying my ears, I've found that a small piece of single-ply toilet paper folded multiple times and then clipped in a pair of forceps works well...

My doc said that it's a bad idea to use q-tips or kleenex because of the lint buildup. He said he's seen ears that were clogged with it. Nice image - ear wax and lint mixed and allowed to harden around the ear hairs. Sweet. 8(

I've seen it done before and the kid was rather noisily complaining about the pain associated with the removeal... The doctor used a squeeze bulb with what appeared to be warm water and squirted it up into the ear canal to soften the wax and flush it out... They use that kidney shaped metal tray to catch the fluid and such that runs out of the ear... It pretty much matches the curve of the head underneath the ear... I had always wondered what that strange looking tray was for...

One of the problems with going to doctors is that they tell you things that you probably wouldn't want to know...

Signature Does anybody here really think that taking away the guns will stop killing? Or knives, or icepicks, or chains, or ropes, or baseball bats, or poisons, or cars & trucks. People are gonna kill people, and they'll always think of a new weapon if you take away the old ones. And just because I carry a potential weapon doesn't mean I intend to commit murder, or that I may be tempted to commit murder. I often carry a big ugly knife. Lots of my friends do too. I have never heard of anyone being tempted to use the knife on anyone just because they have it with them. You gotta be in the mood to do the killing and you use what's at hand. -Jeff Cooper
