Maybe after enough are killed, people will begin to understand that
keeping elephants in circuses isn't nice. I don't think God approves
of circuses at all.
If people are being killed for their stupidity of trying to house
animals in cages / mistreating them, then I think God is smirking
over it.

OK so it's Gods retribution? and I thought it was because he wasn't carrying
a gun. I'm so confused God, guns and I thought I'd subscribed to a SCUBA ng.
OH well all good fun

It's not God's retribution. I never said that. Don't try to put
words in my mouth. But it is more of why was that animal in that cage
in the first place. Don't you understand that animals should not be
harmed in this way? Are you a Christian ? Do you believe in the
Bible ?

I refuse to take my kids to circuses.

but saying that I am either an aesthiest or an agnostic depending on my mood
and give the bible as much credence as other religious books. Having said
that the " Christian" moral values are quite good

Nothing wrong with that. I think your values are in the right place.

The versions of the bible in my library don't mention anything about
elephants, IIRC.

Now I can get back to you
Asking my mate what I should bring over to dinner tonight I had the
oppurtunity of asking him the question about elephants in the bible.
Kings1 10:22 was the answer. He suggested going back to the Hebrew as the
King James calls it "ivory"
Great having a diving mate who is a sky pilot

There are many more than that. Job 40:15 is a good example of one.

"Look at the behemoth, [a]
which I made along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox"
Could be an elephant, I suppose.

WTF has god got to do with any of this. Slavery was and is approved by GOD,
if slavery of humans is allowed then why would he disapprove of keeping an
elephant in my back yard for entertainment. Anyone that brings up god in any
approve/disapprove sort of context is a nut job, especially in this group.
If you say that you personally do not like the idea of keeping caged
animals, that I can respect. "God is smirking over it." when referring to a
tragic loss of human life displays your total lack of compassion and shows
the group that you have a total disregard for anything taught by our lord
Jesus Christ.
It's people just like you that will use the term "god spoke to me" while
testifying from the witness box.
On a lighter side the brewery once imported an elephant for a publicity tour
here. They had to print off thousands of fliers and do public education
lectures to the villages that could not read to the effect that they should
not kill the giant pig. I'll see if I can find a cite.
