Club I used to belong to in Maryland does a Scuba Santa every year.
Kids can get their picture taken with Santa underwater in exchange for
donations of food for a local food bank. I played Santa first year. It
was great stuff. We imported the idea from Southern California, as I
recall, which may have been the origin..

Hey George,  I just noticed this post from you.  I need to come up
with some ideas for fund-raisers for my fire company this year.  Can
you please shoot me an email and tell me how you work this out ?  The
local YMCA gives us free access to their pool and so the Scuba Santa
could be held there.  Do I just gather the guys on the dive team to
provide help and equipment and ask the local newspaper to give us free
space to advertise ?  Do you have the parents / paarticipant sign a
waiver form ?   What is the age limit ?  I'd appreciate any advice or
tips that you could give.  This is a novel idea and it might go over
well.  Thanks and Happy New Year to you and yours.

I'll send you some info. I haven't been involved with them for a
couple years, but I know the people who run it (and you know some of
them, too).

Happy New Year to you and yours, too. Now that the best of winter has
passed, I'm looking forward to Florida over MLK Day.

Ok.  Any info that you can email to me would be appreciated.  Our fire
company is strictly volunteer and so we rely on things like the
monthly Sunday Breakfast and the flower sale for Easter and our big
motorcycle jam and our car washes and the usual.  THe Scuba Santa
sounds like a new idea that might cause a stir.

Have fun doing your upcoming trip.
