Didn't Browning invent the 1907 (predecessor to the 1911) about this
time of the year? Or was that the date it was accepted by the US
Army?

It's birth began in the 1890's sometime, with the development of the
Colt M1900.
Formal trials began in 1906, patent was issued on February 14, 1911,
but the formal adoption by The US Army was March 29, 1911.
But, you may be right, I cant quickly find anything definitive.
