As many of you know, I help out with the Underwater Videographer
Podcast at www.underwatervideographer.tv. We are planning a special
Sea Hunt 50th Anniversary Special in December.

Many of you, like me, developed the interest in diving from watching
Sea Hunt. As part of the Special, I wanted to give any of you the
opportunity to share any memories of Sea Hunt or Lloyd Bridges. Also,
you may want to share how the Show influenced you into diving. I plan
to read the best ones on the Podcast intro.

Thank you for your help.

I recently purchased the 8 DVD set of Sea Hunt shows.  While I was too young
to remember any of the episodes, it was fun watching them again, especially
after getting my C-card.  It's interesting to note that not only was the
show exciting, but it was also educational and at times very funny.  I think
the show was the first time I heard the term "the bends."

I will say I did have visions of the show when I first strapped on a bcd and
tank.  I wondered why I couldn't run around like Mike Nelson (geez, he must
have been strong) only to find his tanks were made of balsa wood.

Where did you find 'em? I'd love to get a set to watch. I think I
watched every episode when I was a kid and it would be great to see
them again, even if it was fake diving.

There was some fellow here several years ago who was selling them. I
bought about a dozen VHS tapes from him. Each tape had about 4-5
episodes on them. I always enjoyed seeing flip the tank over his head
without cracking seven vertabrae. I still can't figure out how people
who got into trouble underwater were able to make pony bottles last the
two hours it took for Mike Nelson to come to their rescue. I wonder what
 ever became of those tapes...

The diving wasn't "fake", it was just that Courtney Brown did it, not
Lloyd Bridges.

I remember reading some stuff about Bridges not being a diver prior to
doing the show.

Bridges was a Shakspearean actor and physically fit. He had never dived
before Sea Hunt. Early on, Courtney Brown and Zale Parry gave him quick
pool lessons, enough that underwater closeups could be shot. Just before
the series ended, he took the full scuba course and got certified. After
the series ended, Bridges did do some diving.

I heard his kids also got into it.  One of the episodes I saw included Beau,
as a child.  Lost his bike at the bottom of the "sea" and "Mike" went down
and got it for him.
