So I've moved.  New workplace's computer system doesn't support
newsgroups, so it looks like I'm stuck with google groups.

That is, unless someone here happens to know of an (ideally free, but
cheap will do) news server that allows for access via news reader
programs.  Not looking for binaries, just rec.scuba and a few other
places...

Can't you just point your newsreader at the server you use from home, or
do they block nntp servers?

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional minority
and the mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is
entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

My home connection sucks.  Doesn't include an nntp server - and likes
to block SMTP's....

Yep, in T.O. now.  I'd be more then happy to take you up on your offer
- in a week or two.  I'm still half living out of boxes, getting the
new job going, buying furniture, and all that jazz, so it'll be a
while before I'm ready for a night out.

BTW, know of a good shop in town?  The shippers "misplaced" one of my
boxes - the one with my drysuit undergarments in it.  So unless they
make a miraculous appearance it looks like I'll be buying new ones.

What size do you need. I might be able to round up something that you
can borrow for a while if you plan to do any diving in the near
future.

I'm a medium usually.  I don't have any immediate diving plans,
although sooner would be better then later.  The loss of the
undergarment wasn't too tragic - its more duct tape then cloth anyhow,
and I've been telling myself for years "just one more trip, then its
time for a new one".  I guess this just forces the issue...

Then you'd be swimming in an XXL I'm sure. Oh well. It was worth the
try. But get yer a.s in gear and organize that gear. You're gonna be
making many trips up to Kingston and east once the snpw ploughs get
the roads open in the spring . It's great diving, albeit a tad nippy
fer www's. Real wrecks are a decent tradeoff for purty fishes and
coral, althouygh we have at least one fresh water anemone to see.

Sounds good.  I've been looking at local TO stuff and there isn't
much, so a trip to Kingston will be in the near future.  Looks like I
may want to peruse some technical training - it looks like a lot of
the good stuff is the kinda stuff you're not going to get a good
gander at with rec.

I'm 1 hour away from the St Lawrence, and 1.5 hrs from Kingston.  I
hope you lads give me a shout if you're looking for some diving in
this area in 2008.

My son is a diver, and I intend to get him up the Advanced cert so we
can hit some of the charters.  He's a natural diver, but hasn't had
much time (nor have I) in the last year or so to do much diving.

That all changes in May 2008.

Some pretty fresh water sponges, too, and the round gobies are pretty
colorful -- for an invader, that is.

I'm right downtown, just off Jarvis street and about 5 blocks from the
harbor.  I've got a car so getting around isn't a huge pain.  So far
things here seem a little better then old cow-town; the traffic is
just as slow, but people here are used to it so the the number of
people trying to do some really dumb sh.t is a lot less.

Too bad Tam Diving closed down, it was very close to there.  This
place is ok, http://www.watersportsscuba.com/.  Parking is scarce but
it's handy by subway.  It's on the east side of Yonge St, north of
Davisville and south of Eglinton.  It's equally close to either stop,
but Yonge St slopes down to the lake.

Another option is http://www.waterlinesports.com/index.html.  Parking
is not great, but there are some places nearby.

I work on Dundas between Bay and University.  Brewski's after work are
certainly doable, assuming you also work downtown.

That's on my way home - I work at Sick Kids and walk home just 1 block
north of you.  Definitely have to grab a pint or four one evening.

And if they're busy downing 4 pints every night, who's taking care of

Nor do I take care of the kiddies.  I am a doctor (the real kind, not
those wanna be MD's), and do medical research for a living.  Beer is
an essential part of all scientific research - chemical genius is
still genius...

Let's not confuse "where" with "for whom".  If Brian was precise, we
work in different buildings, but only need to dial 4 digits to phone
each other.

At least you're able to dial without using your thumb.  In the old
days, Canucks needed both hands to make smoke signals.

So does your new employer in Toronto know that you plan to waste
your time at work reading usenet groups, Bryan?

I don't think that Sick Kids is really big on having its employees
engage in that type of activity at work.
