Just in case you don't recall, Aloysius was Big Bird's hairy elephant friend (I won't even try to spell the name he usually went by).

Back when I was a kid, Sesame Street was simple. We didn't even have a Elmo to tickle.

Elmo showed up near the end of my Sesame Street days.
That was well after Aloysius made his debut.
If you weren't around for Aloysius, you must have gotten tired of Sesame Street rather quickly. He appeared wihtin 2 years of the start of the show.
According to Wikipedia, his common name is spelled "Snuffleupagus". He appeared in 1971. Elmo didn't show up until 1985.

First, his first name is Aloysius Second, Snuffleupagus is much harder to spell and I didn't feel like looking it up. Third, I figured that "hairy elephant friend" would pretty well give it away.

Scott has more friends here than you or Greg (as well as being known, liked and respected in the international scuba community), and, as far as liking my a.s, only one of them (Greg or Scott) has ever drunkenly groped it in a motel room.

Besides, I have plenty of friends here, and there are plenty of Scott's friends that I wouldn't brag about (nor care about) having on my side.

Like me, they hate treasonous socialist bigots.
Greg Mossman - 11 Dec 2007 01:33 GMT > > Scott has more friends here than you or Greg (as well as being known, > > liked and respected in the international scuba community), and, as far as > > liking my a.s, only one of them (Greg or Scott) has ever drunkenly groped it > > in a motel room. Actually, this sentence, the first half, got me thinking a bit.
Let's start with the international reputation part. AFAIK, he's only known among a handful of local divers in the PNW and a handful of technical divers, mainly gear and rebreather manufacturers. Most divers have never heard of Scott Koplin and if they have heard the name, it's only because he puts his name on his backplate. Does he go to DEMA? Travel around the country selling his product and networking? I heard he did a stint with Brownie's/Halcyon that didn't turn out so well. Is that part of the "liked and respected" part? How's his relationship with a luminary like Joel Silverstein? And the international part is really bogus since we all know Scott hasn't left the country in quite a while. I bet I could rustle up far more non- U.S. divers that know, like, and respect me and not just know me for a name on a piece of technical gear that most divers don't use. I've been diving with shop owners and instructors around the country, and well-known photographers and videographers around the world.
And then there's the claim that he has more friends here than me. I'll agree that he has more enemies here than me, but the friends part is hard to swallow. Let's lay out the cards and see.
While don't we start with this thread. I'll take chilly, JOF, George, and janusz as far more friendly to me than with Scott. That leaves Chris, Lee, Bob, Dan, and you, which may consider him a friend but may consider me a friend as well. I've had plenty of words with Lee and Bob to be sure, but I've also gone diving and drinking/eating with Lee a handful of times, and almost went to play with one of Bob's tigers when he still lived in California. While not the best of bosum buddies with those guys and we sure don't agree on too many things and don't mince words about it, I don't know that they'd consider me an enemy. I'm not sure that Chris and Dan have consider themselves friendlier with Scott than me, but I'm pretty certain they wouldn't consider me an enemy either. And then that of course leaves you and I hope we're still friends in the morning even after that hotel thing.
Outside this thread, who? I'll give Jerome and Jammer to Scott since I've never met either. Those foreign guys Nadwidny and Matthias seem to have a thing for him as well. But I've had a good visit with D&C and consider him a friend. I know I pissed off Rick over the prairie dog killing, but I love those furry little things and hope he can understand and not let it ruin our friendship. Likewise Curtis, who as you know can get his panties in quite the snarl, but we've had good times together as well. I've dove with Al Wells. Me and Joe English are pals. Likewise Dennis. DillonP and TonyP as well, I hope. I've toured Bourbon Street and a few Florida haunts with Mike Shelley and had lots of dives and drinks with Mike Grey. I've even done Carnival with Bob Ling. And then there are all the invites I've received that I've yet to take up, most recently from hh and mag3. Going on, I can think of: Alan Street. Old Salt. Suds. MFO. Bullshark. Limey Dave. Glawackus. Steve Harris. Steve Kramer. Ben Bradlee. RIP Michael J. Black, who almost went diving with me a week before his disappearance. Michael Wolf? Adam Helberg? I even had lunch with Brian Wagner that time. Has Scott lunched with Brian? I certainly don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by leaving them out, but the list goes on and on.
There are loads of people on this newsgroup who have been insulted by Scott in the worst way and probably don't respect him in the morning. Do you really want to do the counting?
George Cathcart - 11 Dec 2007 01:56 GMT > > > Scott has more friends here than you or Greg (as well as being known, > > > liked and respected in the international scuba community), and, as far as [quoted text clipped - 61 lines] > Scott in the worst way and probably don't respect him in the morning. > Do you really want to do the counting? Well said, Greg, although I thought Popeye's comment was directed at me. My response to Popeye is, you may be right, and so what? I have no doubt scott has more friends than me here. I've made no effort to cultivate friends here. I've met only one person from r.s., and she doesn't post here any more. There are a few others who would probably be fun, and maybe our paths will cross one day. If Greg and I keep going to the same places, one day we might even be there at the same time.
As for the international respect thing, again, I would expect that's true, although Greg has more knowledge than I about scott's business dealings, and they seem a bit tainted based on that report, but I'll consider the source. I've only been diving seven years, haven't invented or manufactured anything scuba related and probably won't because I have no ambitions that way. I dive for fun and to take photos, and the scores of people I have dived with like me and respect me just fine.
So basically, Popeye's statement is meaningless and irrelevant, even if it is true. I can state with great confidence that I have more friends in universities all over the country and more respect among Ph.Ds, even though I don't have one, than scott ever will, and it is just as meaningless as what Popeye said.
I can also state with confidence something I told scott a long time ago, that I would never want to be like him, and I'm sure he and you can and would say the same of me.

You almost make me feel sorry for you, but I learned not to take pity on hopeless loser drunks a long while back. Go bend some metal or whatever it is you do.
It must suck to know so many people hate you.

If I had a gun and came across you being sodomized by a vicious prairie dog, I'll blow the little sucker away to save your life. Anything for a pal.

However we do nto have prairie dogs here - we do have coyotes - and they can be very bothersome. Some nights it sounds like they are right out the windows

That has nothing to do with the people involved though and much more to do with the fact that Greg does the kind of diving I'm accustomed to more than Scott does (read warm water diving) and I'm more likely to see Greg on one of my (scant few) diving trips.

if you exclude content and comprehension, as you usually do, your conclusion is, well, dumb. as usual.
