Last year, Lake Travis residents were bitching that their docks were
too far from the water. This year they've been bitching that their
docks are underwater.
Lake property owners are whiners. Eight years ago a bunch of houses
went underwater when the lake crested 8 feet below the spillway.
Earlier this year, the county offered to buy them out. Some said yes,
but most said the houses were worth more than what was being offered.
Now the flood insurance people just raised the rates for Travis houses
by 35%.

Keep in mind that Lake Superior is an inland sea. The lake level of
Lake Superior is more akin to the Atlantic Ocean than it is to Lake
Travis. I'm not saying that this isn't a normal "ebb and flo" of the
lake, just that Superiors levels shouldn't be compared to a tiny lake
like Travis.

It is still pretty high? I haven't been there in a couple of
months...

Hmmm... Doesn't seem all that smart to build a house at an elevation
below the spillway... Personally, I would want my house a couple of
feet *above* the spillway elevation to be on the safe side...

I'm sure the folks on the North Shore won't mind seeing as how the
lake drops to about 500 feet within a few hundred yards of the
shoreline. Unfortunately for them, it's still going to be a steep
drop off even with the few extra feet of shoreline.
