Small neoprene piece needed

I am in need of a relatively small piece of .5mil or 1mil black neoprene
to patch my wetsuit (skin).  I tore the knee (and some of me) while in
Bonaire.  Checked the LDS to see if they might have an old suit I could
cut a patch out of and all they had was some very thick stuff.

I probably need two pieces, about 1"X 1" so I can patch both sides of
the tear.  Also, I have a smaller hole in the other knee.  So a little
extra for that one would work great also.

If anyone has an old skin that has outlived its usefullness as a
protection garment, and do not mind cutting a small patch out and
mailing it to me, I would be greatly appreciative.  I will be glad to
reimburse postage and if we ever meet in person, a beverage of your
choice on me would be my pleasure.

Email me if you might have something that would work.

Thanks,

Andy

What about doing reinforced knees while you're at it? My 3/2 has
little rubber pads glued on the knees.

If hindsight is 20/20 I would have gotten the knee pads to begin with.
I think if I tried to put knee pads on it at this point it would look
crappy.  I am going to try a patch using AquaSeal.  If that doesn't
work, I can either live with it, or buy a new one.  .5 mil suits are not
that expensive anyway.

Buy a new suit.  Nothing worse than looking crappy.  You don't see any
aqua seal on my suits, that's for sure.

My LDS will love you.

With those holes in your suit, it probably classifies as somewhere
between a full suit and a shorty... <grin>

Duct tape, anyone?

My nice suit was starting to show a bit of wear and tear.  It's
currently in a wetsuit repair shop.

What happens to me is that, if a tank has a boot, the boot tends to
rest on my rump.  If there are any nicks or other rough edges on the
boot, it causes damage to the seat of my suit.

I'm nipping this one in the bud.

The only rip that I noticed was one that you had on the side of the
suit near the waist... So, your'e saying that you have a suit where
the rip makes it look like a pair of the old bottom flap longjohns?  I
really didn't need that mental picture, ya' know...

I'm referring to the nice suit I wore in Key Largo and Looe Key.  The
nice suit to which you refer is the one I wore in Marathon.  And that
wasn't a rip, if was delamination.

OK, my mistake... The only one that I notice was the one at Marathon,
I guess... Some kind of light blue color, IIRC?  All in all, I think
we've gone downhill since the old Mk-V and the canvas full dress...

I would think they make a repair kit for neoprene wetsuits, but if you must,
most shops have mask strap covers made of neoprene you could cut a patch
from.  A lot of cellphone cases and PDA cases are made of neoprene as well.
My laptop case is made of neoprene.  And, speaking of beverages, many drink
cozy's are made of neoprene.

I'd buy a new suit before cutting up a drink cozy!

My mind was obviously in the gutter, when I saw the subject.......

This is why you wear gloves: the backs are excellent for wetsuit
patches, the front are used for knee and elbow pads.

If you need a koozie to keep your drink cold, you're obviously not
drinking it fast enough...

Where the hell do you keep yer drinks?????

JF

The "koozie" or "cozy"  is to keep your back-up drink cold and to keep it
from sinking in the pool while you are drinking from your primary. I maybe
considered a newbe diver (certified in Aug. of 99 - only 800 + dives so far)
but I'm no newbe in the drinking circle. I've chilled my lunch time beer
with fire extinguishers when available and drank it warm (and hot) when I
had to. That was 25 years ago but when I walk by a fire extinguisher I still
have fond memories of how well they work.

Anybody e-mailed you yet?  I might have something that is no longer
suitable for either my wife or I do dive in.  It's 3 mm though, and
it's not black.

Not yet.  I am thinking of just stitching it back together and applying
a bead of aquaseal along the stitch seam and be done with it.  The right
knee has an "L" shaped tear in it about 1" x 1" (maybe a bit smaller).
The left knee has a very small circular tear, maybe 1/4".

Thanks, but I think I will hold out for a black piece.  If I don't get
one, I will go to plan "B".

I think I still have a 3mm suit that I've been cutting up for scraps.
Free if you want to stop by for it; where you at?
