Sunset Waters in Curacao?

Anything good, bad, or indifferent to say about the place?

I have been to Curacao but not to that specific site.

My girlfriend was there in Feb last year with a dive group (15 peeps).
Rooms simple but clean
Good food at resort plus good restaurant nearby ("Drunken Turtle" she
thinks)
Good shore diving in front of the resort but not as deep or varied as
Bonnaire. Dive boats, divemasters, and general facilities were good.
If you're going in the winter, take a wetsuit.
Good snorkeling at a cave (by boat). Overall diving was good (easy)
but not spectacular.
Clothing optional beach
45-60 minute ride to town. She liked the jewelry stores (naturally)
and outdoor European style cafes. Moderately priced souvenir shops.
Overall, she'd give a 7-8 out of 10 (as compared to a 10 for Grand
Caymen or Bonnaire).

Thank you for that answer.  Nice to hear that she enjoyed the shore
diving.

My husband I recently moved to Curacao from New Hampshire. The shore
diving here is fantastic, especially at the West end of the island. We
think there is more of a variety in topography on land and below the
surface than in Bonaire. I've met some of the staff from Sunset Waters
and they seem young and enthusiastic. You'll need a car even if you
decide not to shore dive. It probably takes at least 45 minutes to
drive downtown from Sunset Waters or Westpunt. If you are into discos
and casinos you may want to consider staying at Lions Dive, Sea
Aquarium Condos, or Breezes but then you will still want a vehicle to
drive out to Banda Bou (west end) for the better dive sites. Give us a
buzz if you head out this way. We have a vacation apartment for rent
and a weekend restaurant on the terrace but would still be up for
joining you on a dive during the week. We live on Playa Kalki just
down the street from the dive site. Curacao will be a great dive
vacation. Sunshine

Cool, another rec.scuba dive.  We're currently looking at the 3rd week
of September.  I wonder who else wants to come.

Looks like we have an official Dive With Curacao Sunshine in the
works.  I just signed up myself for 15-22 Sep.  There will be a
hurricane in the northern Caribbean and South Florida that week so
this will be a good way for people to escape it.

It's at this resort http://www.sunsetwaters.com/index.php

You have to phone to book a package, the online form only works for
booking rooms.

The resort is having a Singles Week that week.  Sheldon, you said you
wanted to meet diving babes, here's your chance.  Lee and Curtis, you
have to bring your wives though.

Curacao Sunshine, beam me at "bracuk @ pathcom . com" and we'll sort
out the details of when we dive together.

Too early in the month for me.  A week later and maybe.  Have fun.
Curacao Sunshine - 19 Jul 2007 13:46 GMT
Sounds great! David and I are always looking for some new dive
buddies. You won't regret your decision to dive in Curacao, it's a
wonderful place. We'll be around all week as of now we have no guests
in our apartment who may need to be guided around. One of the best
dive sites on the island is behind our house; Playa Kalki It's also
known as Alice in Wonderland. Dan, I'll email you directions, some
helpful hints etc. And yes, no hurricanes. Sunshine

Let's keep it public.  We might entice someone else to join us.
Better yet, make em jealous.

How does Wednesday afternoon sound?

Curacao Sunshine - 21 Jul 2007 04:19 GMT
Sounds good, Dan. We'll plan an afternoon dive 1 or 2 PM at Playa
Kalki in Westpunt on Wednesday, September 19th. There is a dive shop
there, Ocean Encounter's West. I believe the cost is $8.00 to rent a
tank. Let us know if you're planning any other dives "out west" Lagun,
San Juan, Porto Marie, etc. and we'll see if we can join you as well.
IMHO there are many great shore dives, you may not need to spend the
extra for the boat dives although I understand the freighter wreck is
fantastic. There is one main road from the rotary near the airport
that will lead you to Westpunt and one that will fork off and run
along the southern side to Sunset Waters and to the end of the island.
Take the road across from Jaanchie's Restaurant (goat stew and igauna
served here) and around the back of the cemetary. Ours is the large
green house on the left. It will say Sol Food on the wall. You can
follow the signs to The Lodge Kura Hulanda and the Sunshine Getaway
signs. Playa Kalki is just a third of a mile from the house. I've only
started posting to this site. Is there a way to attach documents? If
not, I'll type my beach suggestions and helpful hints to the board.
Thanks for including us in your plans. Sunshine & David Livingston

It's probably significant to mention that we won't have a car.  We
bought a hotel/dive package from Sunset Waters and will be doing most
of our diving from the resort.  Is Playa Kalki a reasonable taxi ride
away?

I assume that 011-599-9-864-0005 is your phone number.

Regarding documents, you can't attach them.  You can try, but many
readers won't see them.  The common way to make binary info available
is to put them on a webserver and post a link.  Of course, this
depends on what your isp allows you to do and whether or not you know
how.

In any event, we are looking forward to our 2nd Curacao vacation (we
were there ~11 years ago) and to hooking up with you for an afternoon.

I wonder if anyone else wants to come.  Remember, there is going to be
a hurricane in Florida and the northern Caribbean that week.

Bon Dia Dan and all. It's another beautiful day in Curacao. You may
want to consider getting a car for at least a couple of days. While I
realize that most divers just want to sleep, eat and dive with perhaps
a beer afterwards, Sunset Waters is a bit isolated. There is a local
bus that can take you to town and some of the beaches in Band Bou
(west) but the walk to the main road seems to me to be 2 or 3 miles.
Yes, the phone number is here at the house in Westpunt. We can come
pick you up for a dive and so you can see the end of the island. Taxis
will probably cost you a good chunk of change to go both ways to town
I'm not sure if they would take you this direction (?). Take advantage
of a shuttle if they have one or get a car and plan one or 2 full days
away from the resort. There is a lot to see and do on the island.
