oorahscuba@gmail.com - 06 Jul 2007 01:02 GMT I read an article on Martin Sheen recently...
He has no qualms calling George W. Bush "a failed student, a failed businessman, and now a failed president."
He goes on to say "I saw what happened to the Dixie Chicks (when they spoke out against the Iraq war). If George W. Bush were a true Christian, like he proclaims himself to be, you know what he would have done? He'd have invited them to his next barbecue to play and say 'Hey, I love their music and whether or not I agree with them, I support their right to free speech.' But instead he was a bully. And he enjoyed watching what happened to them ... it gave him a sense of power and righteousness,"
And... "He's still a bully. What is arrogance but ignorance matured?"
What I (Oooooorah) don't understand is why American lefties seem to be intelligent while the far right seem to be completely ignorant nut jobs.

The Dixie Chicks apparently thought that *they* were the only ones allowed free speech and the freedom of expression. Do we not have the right to stop listening to their music, or to say we do not agree with them? I think that we do.
And did they not also forget that with freedom comes the obligation to take responsibility for the things that one says and to be ready to deal with the implications of one's words on one's career?

I doubt I'd be able to pikc 'em out of a lineup either. Same with a lot of musicians - even ones I like. I don't look at their pictures, just the music.

But at least I'm not an anonymous chickenshit coward.
And I have no idea what they look like.
I had one of their CDs, and I chucked it when they shanked the President to foreigners for a cheap laugh.
And, when one of their songs comes on that I recognize, I change the station.

The problem is they don't understand basic economics. Just because you pay a plumber to fix your toilet doesn't mean you value his opinion on foreign policy. You value his skill with a wrench, not his political insights. The Dixie Chicks are famous and have an audience because they are talented musicians. When they perform, the audience are their employers, and they are getting paid to play their instruments and sing. They are not being paid to be political pundits. If you stop doing your job and spend your employer's time mocking his/her political convictions, you'll probably not be employed very long. Why should they be any different. If they do something that pisses off their employers/audience when they're supposed to be rendering the services purchased (music) then they get the same response the plumber gets if he tries to pontificate on tax policy while your basement floods.

Being anonymous is great. I can post all I want about how I like to suck little boy dicks and none of the straight guys on rec.scuba can find me. I can taunt them for not showing up to meet me even if I'm not on the same continent. How come it's always up to us guys to learn and make accommodations? Why shouldn't the ladies give a little too? We need to let them know we still wear the pants in the family, at least whenever the laundry gets done. Wendy insists that I'm the king around our house, and will always be as long as I continue to do all the cooking, take care of the pool, cut the grass, buy the groceries, pay the mortgage and credit card bills, defend the castle from marauders, and dispose of my own empties. Women know this about men: we like boobs and beer. There's really not much more to know.
Men know this about women:
So, do you see a disparity there?

I try to learn while I'm having a beer with friends but ... well, you know. I try to learn from movies and tv but Hollywood is biased against us as well. Our thought processes are just too fuckin' different for there to be communication between our two species... Yeah, that's right, I said *species*... Welll, lets take a look at what Scott said: <Scott> 7/11/2007 "I get my appetite at home, as I understand you do."
"Out in the wilds, I just run comparisons."
"Most of them are too damned skinny; most couldnt handle a proper "event" on the kitchen floor without needing medical help after." </Scott>
Now, the way I read it, looks like its was more an assessment - not necessarily a reflection of whatever does or does not occur in their home.
After all, he then wrote the following:
<Scott> 7/12/2007 And, as an added bonus, I showed it to her and got smicked on the back of the head.
Gawd I love that girl. </Scott>
So, clearly, from what I can tell, he does love (and respect, as shown in other posts) the young lady with whom he lives.

There are a few houses that are built on ridges that have honest to goodness basements. There are a few more that are built at the same level as other homes and have dirt piled up around the first floor to make it basement like. They're all owned by Yankees.
For the rest of us, a basement would be referred to as an indoor swimming pool.

Yeah, leave it to the Yankees to bring basements down here where they're not needed... The closest think we have is probably the storm cellars up in the rural farms of northern Texas... We don't get tornados as serious as they do up there, so we don't tend to see storm cellars down here...

Nawh, Scott's standards (these days) are considerably higher than Billy-Boy's ever were... On the other hand, back when he was in the Corp, I suspect that his standards probably were quite a bit lower, but even the most drunken sailor or marine has standards higher than Billy-Boy... And I say that even though our mottos were:
"Eight to Eighty, Blind, Deaf, Dumb, or Crazy"
and
"Female, walks on two legs, doesn't drag her knuckles (too often)"
We had to add the "too often" clause to be able to allow for the female marines...
