Force Fins

Thought that I might post a bit of a review of the Force Fins... When
Kaitlyn and I were up at Blue Springs, my Jet Fins were underneath a
bunch of other stuff and I didn't feel like digging everything out in
order to get to them, so I grabbed Grace's spare set of Force Fins and
decided to give them a try to see what they were like... Although they
are comfortable to wear even without boots and do work for forward
propulsion, they absolutely suck in a cave type system where you want
to use your fins to back up or use a frog kick... Also, when you're on
the surface and one your back and wanting to change your kick style so
that instead of the top surface of the fins producing thrust, the
bottom is producing thrust, they just don't work that way... They seem
to produce virtually no thrust when you're using a stepping motion
instead of a kicking motion...

Later, when Kaitlyn and I were at Jackson Blue, I dug everything out
of my truck so that I could get to my Jet Fins... I also learned that
the sand / gravel in that spring is really irritating when it gets
into the foot pocket of your fin and you don't have a boot on...
Somehow, it seems that I forgot my neoprene boots on that dive trip...

I don't know what would get me out of my Jet fins, but I think an
absence of booties would temporarily *keep* me out of my Jet fins.
Ouch! I have gold core booties and have to wear socks to keep from
rubbing up blisters on my feet. I'd hat to think what the inside of
the foot pocket would do to bare skin...

The bare fins over skin did not cause any blisters, but the very
course sand or whatever was rather irritating... Enough so that next
time instead of just grabbing the box of dive gear that is *supposed*
to have all my stuff in it, I'll actually do inventory on it to ensure
that it actual *does* have everything in it...

The rule applies for all items:  on my trip last December to Key Largo
with Curtis & John, I decided to go 'light' and only bring one of my
two perscription dive masks.  Turns out that the one mask that I
packed wasn't any of mine, but my wife's non-perscription
mask...oops.  Maybe its time to get better mask boxes.

I think that last time that I did a dive without correction was in the
1980's.  Fortunately, the viz was low enough that it didn't really
matter too terribly much :-)

I was using my corrective lenses mask at Blue Springs and Jackson
Blue... Turns out that I couldn't read my gauges... The eyes are
getting a bit older... My eyesight is not bad enough for distance
vision that I probably should be wearing corrective lenses anymore
considering the fact that the corrective lenses end up screwing up my
near vision...

On land, get reading glasses.  For diving, get bigger gauges.

Actually, for your spg, you don't have to see the numbers.  As long as
you have an idea what direction the arrow is pointing, yer fine.

Actually, I don't need glasses for reading... I need a mild
prescription for when I'm at the computer since the monitor is a bit
further than my normal reading distance... The prescription that works
well for distance in my mask makes it not that clear on my gauges... I
think I've decided that given the typical visibility underwater the
distances involved are not such that I really need distant vision
while diving...

Agreed, but it's kind of nice to be able to read my dive computer to
be able to read the depth and even more important if I'm going to be
getting into a deco situation...

I've been using Force Fins for years and like them.  Using them is like
any other fin, there's a learning curve when you want to try new
techniques.  I can go backwards, frog kick, do helicopter turns, etc.
It just took some time to develop the techniques required.

But can you fin backwards in a stiff downcurrent while rubbing your
belly clockwise and humming Yankee Doodle in the key of E-flat?  If
not, Force Fins suck.

yeah....but they are not nitrox rated.

The one and only purpose I found them useful for is that you can walk on
them.

As diver propulsion devices, they are horribly overpriced and remarkably
inefficient.

I also use Force Fins Pro and like them for comfort and the compact size. And I have
no trouble keeping up with others. On the surface I find I have to be on my back to
move, but it's not a bad way to swim anyway.

I like to wear them when I'm giving blow jobs to truckers in the local

He's not the one in everyone's killfiles, eh?

In fact, as a matter of true accomplishment, his initials in text aren't
used as a filter by people.

We just keep after you like we'd keep a retarded child from a hot stove.

We have outlawed them in the aquarium.  Seems everyone wearing them
makes a mess of the exhibits, but they do ok when wearing just about
anything else.
