Hey, some of us have no choice. Temps in the St Lawrence River are
about 17 C right now. We usually start diving in May, when it's
around 10 C -- with 7 mm farmer johns/dry suits + hoods. I still dive
wet. You're lucky.

It's the "Stanley" Cup -- donated by Gov General Lord Stanley of
Preston, in 1892. It was originally meant for Canada's top amateur
hockey team, but that's certainly been blurred over the years.
You're right -- almost all kids here have played hockey at one time or
another. Even the girls are playing now, even though they started out
with ringette, and I'm sure many of them would kick my butt.

I just recall it as a wild, full-contact sport. Lots of action, great
game to watch with a few pints.
I find North American football rather boring unless you're at a game,
too.

I dived Stewert Island which is the 3rd Island of NZ ( S of the other 2 )
at Christmas and the water temp was down at that level. Great diving, great
vis but I know why I stick to warmer waters.
Also dived at Doubtful Sound if you are ever in NZ that is a must

A few beers makes any game better

I watch one game of gridiron per year and that is the superbowl. I only do
it because a very good mate of mine ( ex septic ) puts on a superbowl brunch
plenty of piss, kranskys, ribs etc. Can't actually remember who has won any
of the games but am amazed that a game which has 15 min? quarters can last
so long

It's doubtful for me. It's one helluva long trip from here and I'm
not a fan of long plane flights.

I pass on Stupour Bowls. Usually extremely boring games where the ads
are more entertaining than the game. You might even see some skin
during half-time games, à la Janice Jackson, although that really
isn't terribly exciting unless you lead a very sheltered life. If you
think about it, they spend several seconds in a huddle, more seconds
lining up, a few seconds of action, followed by several seconds of
scraping off the injured players, several seconds of mearuring, more
seconds of going into the huddle, etc. There really is precious
little action going on.
