Hey all, I put together a "Scuba Start Page" and part of the concept
is that there is a new scuba diving picture every day.  Well, right
now I'm running my own pictures and figured there would be enough
public domain pictures on Flickr, etc. to get me through.  Turns out
there are some real challenges with that strategy due to the types of
pictures that seem to go on Flickr.  Anyway, could really use some
good shots.  I resize everything to 500X375 pixels so if your pictures
aren't super-high resolution that shouldn't be a problem.  The page is
at "http://scuba.ismyfix.com" if you want to take a look to make sure
I'm not doing anything nefarious!

If you don't have enough of your own shots to post one a day, I
suggest you switch to digital.  I could easily get you a year's worth
in a single day of diving.

Based on what I saw on that Web site, just about anything that I shoot
would meet their standards, including a lot of stuff I delete while
still in the camera.

And as someone with photos on flickr, I think I should start keeping
an eye on the OP's site just to make sure he's not ripping things
off.

In addition, his site has no scuba content or any other content. It's
just a list of links, topped by a mediocre photograph.

Why would I give away the keepers?  Those I'll try to sell.

Hey Greg,
Friend of mine just placed second (marine life category) in Scuba Diving
Magazine's annual photo contest.

What made me think of it, he is using the Nikon D200 also.  He and his
wife were with me on the Nekton Pilot trip.  Since Nekton is not
offering E6 processing on board anymore, the appeal of digital certainly
a lot more.

I think you said you had gotten the D200.

Yep.  The First and Third Places in Marine Life also used D200s.
Macro First Place used the big brother, the D2X, Macro Second Place is
the predecessor, the D100, and Macro Third Place is yet another D200.
It's a pretty popular camera.  Allegedly some stock houses are still
requiring the resolution of the D2X, but plenty are lowering their
standards to the D200's 10 megapixels.  For the cost of the D2X you
could buy 2 redundant D200 bodies.

I took some nice macro pics of various bees on flowers today.  I love
the 105mm VR macro lens.  It's begging me to take it underwater.

The housing should arrive tomorrow at my photo dealer's shop and I'll
try to pick it up Wednesday or Thursday.  Unfortunately the macro port
won't fit the 105mm yet, so I'm stuck using the 60mm for macro in
Grand Cayman.  That should be great for fishies, but I really want to
take pictures of tiny anemone shrimp and such.  Next time . . .

If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.

IIRC, Dave Read? did that a decade ago.

Such as the little  niggling fact that something viewable to the
Public can still be copyrighted.

True, for low rez, I'd charge a smaller licence fee.

If you were doing something nefarious, what would you say?

My recommendation is to go generate your own content, or clearly offer
to licence others.  Afterall, its not like any of us can go diving for
free, even if we promise to say nice things about the provider.
