The Xios Tracker was a revolutionary sonar based underwater tracking
computer that was worn as a wrist computer. Unfortunately the Swiss
based company went out of business.
They aparently have been bought out and the compact navigation system is
once again available.

The original system was quite expensive (around $1000,- ?).
I could hire a lot of experienced divemaster that search the boat for
me for that... :-)
Cool technology though, I hope Thales will sell it a a lower price. I
have sent them an email to ask how much it is and let you know when I
get an answer.
There is another company that is selling an underwater navigation
system called TAMIN. 'TAMIN - Navigation System For Skin Divers'
TAMIN actually works independednt of a boat based transmitter and can
also chart the whole dive. Very cool! Cost is about $1750 :-(
A simpler and cheaper (starting ~ $300) solution is available here:
'Sport & Scout'
It doesn't show you the exact distance, but allows you to figure out
how far the boat is away and if you are swimming in the right
direction.
