Well Scott, how about a run of these?

Would have to be at least an inch thick to ensure stiffness, a little
tin and antimony for strength, and no travel cuts, full size or tall only.
Embossed with the title "solo diver".

In recognition of his new "status" at rec scuba, I think you oughtta
give Greg the first perfected one.

Are you implying that Greg is a gas bag or what?    ;^)

if you had the lead backplate and the brass backplate if you ever ran out of
Barrett ammunittion you could melt them down and make your own

It sounded funny when I wrote it

I wouldn't waste the lead.

Unless I'm wrong in my calculations, a 1" thick lead backplate would
work out to about 68 lbs... Lead weighs about 1.4175 times the weight of
stainless steel for a given volume (depending upon the particular alloy
of stainless steel)... A cubic meter of lead weighs 11,340 kgs and a
cubic meter of stainless steel weighs from 7,480 to 8,000 kgs... Using
the 8,000 figure, we end up with 1.4175 times as much for a particular
volume of lead vs stainless steel... Since a stainless steel backplate
weighs 6 lbs for one that is 1/8" thick, the lead one 8 times as thick
would weigh:

6 * 1.4175 * 8 = 68.04 lbs

Not really good enough to do the job properly unless you combine it with
a set of doubled Heiser 190s (62.3 lbs negative buoyancy *each* when
full, 46.86 lbs negative buoyancy *each* when *empty*)...

Damn! That would solve my flopping around on the surface problem!

It would probably even prevent some people from going to the wrong
boat after the dive...

I resent that remark.

Very close, it would weigh about 60.219.

   for such a good cause?

60.219 pounds would make a lot of bullets.

I could have a lot of fun shooting them, and leave him to wither away in his
miserable life.

<snip> wither away in his miserable life.

It's all about perspective.

I guess so.  Life is going to pretty miserable for the next few weeks
with way too much work, four more weeks of construction on my Culver
City expansion, and a rushed business trip to the Windy City, but we
head to Grand Cayman in mid-June for a week of warm water and a tech
class, at which point my perspective will change (unless Janna gets
bitten by another eel).

Love the Windy City: the lake front, museums, restaurants, shopping...
Haven't been back in too many years.  May is about the best time of year to
be there: winter's over but not summer yet.

Hey, she's still got one more hand left, right? <evil-grin>
