A death was averted by a citizen with a gun, and he didn't even shoot the a.shole.
Good thing he disappeared afterwards--cops, "who want to talk to him" would most likely arrest the guy. Then, there are those who will speculate that he, horror of horrors, may not have had a CCW permit and therefore should not have a gun to prevent a murder. Kinda unusual--it was actually in the paper without claiming he had an "assault weapon".

Well, looking at it from his point of view, there's no real advantage to staying around and talking to the cops... The best that can happen to him is that they do nothing but waste some of his time... The worst that can happen would depend upon how leftist leaning the local police and DA are... If he doesn't come forward, he comes out even better in that even his time doesn't get wasted... It's not like they're going to reward him for being a good citizen...

For all Illinois residents the Illinois senate is voting in the next couple weeks a ccomplete ban on semi-automatic shotguns and rifles - call your reps!

Here in Aus a bus driver just gets out of his bus and arrests the bloke, gets back on his bus to applause. No guns no danger to anyone. You got to love this country

Yep, gotta love that--if it worked in real life. I too would applause a guy that could do that, being a trained professional, um, err, bus driver.

Doug posted proof of how they can render a gun useless as self-defence.

You're a liar.
This is another documented Futile John Francis lie.

Oh Fertile One, wasn't that you posted the little scenario about the 70 year old marine who whupped some armed miscreant's a.s on a bus. Mayhap it was another of the gun squad. You guys all start sounding the same after a while.
I noted the story because I got a kick out of the irony of one of you pointing out how ineffectual the bad guys' weapons were in that instance.

Typical of your attempts at logic, it wasn't the gun that was ineffectual, but the criminal.

But we know how open minded and clear thinking you are.

I would like to watch that. Would be willing to bet, unless you are a black belt or better, it isn't going to end well for you. Nor would it for most typically out of shape bus drivers.

"No guns no danger to anyone."
This is the same bullshit tripe Futile John Francis used to spout.
He then steadfastly denied it, his usual lies.
Despite your draconian gun laws and mandatory registration and confiscation, you still have guns and gun crime.
http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2005/01_recordedCrime.html
I usually try and make you guys think, but I'll spell this one out for you because of Canadian roaming charges.
Despite the ridiculous gun ban, millions if not billions spent, your murder rate is unchanged, and your overall violent crime rate is skyrocketing.
Because, like Futile John, you just don't get it.
-Criminals- do not obey gun laws.
Sadly enough, this included many common hunting weapons, incredibly valuable weapons, and family heirlooms, and it's plain proof your government can disarm you as they please.
Don't ever bother to tell us you have the same freedoms as an American.
It's also proof positive of what happens when fear based decision making like Futile Johns' runs rampant.
Examples like this are why he's terrified to engage in any coherent gun debate.
His "beliefs" are all he has to keep his irrational gun fears tenuously at bay, and he can't risk scrutinizing them.
Even with this specific example of failure, he's ready to confiscate, confiscate, confiscate, and try again.
Removing hundreds of thousands, or millions, of guns, from law abiding Australian citizens, has done -nothing- to lower crime, or make citizens safer.
-Nothing-
You've been duped, into sacrificing much security, and it doesn't seem like it was all that hard.
=============== Assyrians Divided By Fear After Shooting Death
April 12, 06
www.theaustralian.news.com.au
The fatal shooting of a Sydney man has divided the city's Assyrian population, who fear the killer may be being protected by elements within the Assyrian community itself.
Ashur Audisho, 21, was gunned down last Sunday after arguing with three men in the western suburb of Fairfield. His funeral was held yesterday at the Saint Zaia Cathedral, in Sydney's West Hoxton Park.

:-) Here, any citizen can make an arrest. Presuming wikipedia is correct, it looks like y'all can do the same. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen's_arrest Why would it take a "bus driver"? Do they have courses in unarmed combat in the bus driver schools? :-) To get a license to drive a bus, do you have to be say, a at least a red belt in Karate (or equivalent in other martial arts)?
