Froogle is the google platform for price comparisons, and it certainly
works better than such general queries, regardless of what key words
you add. The problem is though that the US prices sometimes include
tax and sometimes don't, and with the D9 the price is sometimes
with transmitter and sometimes not. So it's a lot of leg work
whichever
way you do it.
I was therefore hoping someone reading this group may have been
through the process recently and have a recommendation.

That's without the transmitter though, making them one of the
more expensive suppliers.

Says call for lowest price - that's even more hassle!

That's for the Gecko though, and a UK server. Best UK price seems to
be around GBP840, that's not such a good deal :-(
Thanks anyway, I guess eBay as usual gives a good guide
to the best price one can expect.

because without knowing where you live,
they can not determine if state tax applies to you.

As usual? Not hardly. At least, not any more. Most of the stuff I look at these days is slightly
less than I would pay for the item if I bought it retail. In most cases, I can easily find a better
deal using pricegrabber or nextag.
IIRC, Suunto is one of those companies that practices price fixing. As I recall, they won't allow
authorized dealers to sell their items for less than 90% of the MSRP. I could be wrong on that, so
don't quote me, but I believe we had a discussion about that a year or two ago.

Usually I've found the eBay best price pretty close to the best mail
order
price, assuming you have enough offers for both. If there are only a
small
number of suppliers it's more difficult on both. Also the price
agencies are
only really good on particular items; typically computer hardware or
common
consumer products. Where there is a good choice, it's often true the
best
eBay price is a few percent higher, but it'll generally still give you
a ball
park idea of how much you could negotiate down.

It doesn't seem to be the case here in Germany. The RRP is EUR1499 -
best price I've found so far is EUR950, both including german sales
tax
(19%) and transmitter. That's a major mail-order dealer, though it
wasn't
his advertised price, rather a personal offer by email. A lot of mail
order
and retail stores have them listed at EUR1099 or EUR1199.
Looks like it wouldn't be worth picking one up in the US for me.
On eBay there are people selling them in Malta and Indonesia at better
prices...that's a bit risky for me though.
