Gatlinburg was cool, clear and sunny on Saturday.  Couldn't get a buddy
for a night dive in the "Sinks", so settled for the dive shows at Ripley's.
:-)

Pigeon Forge & Sevierville were cool, and raining for about 24 hours
straight.  We stayed Beary Cozy for three nights, but didn't see any solids
fall from the sky.  Tub poached my a.s, especially after tooling around in
tee-shirt & shorts.

New dive wagon is damn comfy, and actually outdid the old wheels on
fuel.  Note special for Lee, gas in C/NW SC is going for 1.869 a gallon, and
TN & GA have 2.059.

   Next time buddy!

Gas is a $1.75 here:

We've been under $2.00 for a few of weeks now.

Screw you both.  The best I've been able to do down here is $2.16, and
that's on the Indian reservation.  I don't even want to think about what
high test is as the marine pumps.

I'll never understand how our politicians expect us to believe they are
being fair, when places thousands of miles from the nearest refinery or
shipping port, have so much lower prices than here, right next door to the
port were large quantities of fuel are brought in.  Damn.

I found 87 octane going for $1.95 the other day... In my neighborhood, it
goes for around $2.10... Of course, the real problem is that I can't get
*real* gas locally thanks to the fuckin' eco-nuts and their ethanol
poluted fuel... I saw a gas station selling E85 the other day... I think
it was for around $1.65... Hmmm... On an equivalent BTU basis with
gasoline, that makes it equivalent to paying $2.54 per gallon for
gasoline... I still say that putting ethanol in gasoline is a waste of
perfectly good corn squeezins... I could probably put up with the worse
gas mileage of the gasahol in my cars, but it sucks that I can't use it in
my airplane and have to resort to either driving quite a distance to fill
up a 55g drum or paying $3.49 for avgas (100LL)...

Frankly, considering all the refineries in the Houston area, it should be
even cheaper...

I'll go you one better than that.

I live in the heart of "oil country" in west Texas and I'm seeing pretty close to the same prices
you are.  I filled up for $2.11/g two days ago and was very happy at that price.  We pump it, we
store it, we refine it, and it still costs us more.

You folks need to realize that most of the difference between states is
taxes.

Gas prices around here are around $1.87 for regular.

Week before last, I was in Fla and noticed the higher fuel prices.  The
people we were staying with told us Fla doesn't have some of the taxes
we have in Virginia so I guess it evens out.

You think so, try paying my real estate taxes and hurricane insurance.
That's another interesting thing.  Generally speaking, moderate income
people can not afford to move.  Property values have risen so much faster
than the taxes on them, which are based on original value plus a severely
limited annual increase, that they can't afford to move out of their present
home into one significantly smaller and less valuable because the property
taxes will increase so much that the smaller home will be more expensive to
live in than the larger one was.  Property insurance, both because of the
inflated housing values and increases by the insurance companies, has gotten
so high that people that have lived in their homes for more than 30 years,
are having to sell them because they can no longer afford the insurance.
It's so bad that the state just passed special legislation to control the
cost.  We'll see how it turns out.

The end result of all of this is that a state that only a few years ago had
one of the fastest growing populations in the country, actually has more
people leaving than they have arriving.  What's worse, at least from my
perspective, is who is leaving and who is staying.  The demographics of
Florida are changing even faster than the population levels.

Insurance companies are Satans spawn.

You are welcome to my issue.

I figured you were standing around inhaling too many gas fumes.  It
actually sounded Dutch.  Maybe it means something profane.  You could
be possessed by a Dutch devil who speaks through your fingers.  Might
want to get that checked out.  Any exorcists in St. Louis?

BTW, cheapest out here is $2.31 and that's at Costco.

I thought the original Exocist movie with Linda Blair was based on a
supposedly true story from a priest in St Louis

Having learned many of the more "creative" words in Dutch as a normal
part of having a Dutch mother in law, I don't recognize those as
anything profane in the language of Pays Bas. Maybe Afrikaans?

All I know is that I drank a lot of Duvel when I was in Amsterdam.  I
drank a lot of everything.  It's customary to buy a drink at a bar if
you want to use their restroom.  But then you have to use the restroom
at the next bar, and so on and so on.  Next time I go you'll have to
educate me on the local lingo so I have something to shout while I'm at
the urinal.

Afrikaans would explain the possession.  It's obviously some kind of
voodoo.  I recommend Joe stick pins in his forehead to counteract the
juju.  I will pray for him.

Lieke will be happy to teach you a few Belgian jokes in Dutch. They'll
go well with the Duvel :-)
