Diver says he was partly swallowed by shark

I could not tell from the article if he was scuba diving or free diving?

He probably hasn't decided which story to tell yet.

I watched the story develop in multiple news sources - it got better
and better as the day progressed.

Exactly.

The same story was posted here a few days prior, but no one reognized it.

I have no doubt he got bit, just the journalistic license has changed.

It looked to me like the big improvement in the story came when they
put a TV camera and microphone in front of the victim, most probably
with some coaching and encouragement from the journalists.
